Somebody at Chubby_Wallet has posted that he got a straight 75% off Imation CDRs without any hassle. I hope I can do the same today. Anybody here tried it?

i didn't see anything, especially no caveats, about cmc magnetics discs. still don't know that the friggin' deal is with them.
 
this is a confusing deal
i have the ad in front of me
"75% off all imation 16x cd-r media!"
Then they have the 25-disc spindle for $12, $3 off instant, $6 off MIR.. so they cost $3

so you save $9, which is 75% off... but with that quote above they say nothing about rebates, just a straight 75% off


it's very deceptive. i say we go down there, tell them to give you the 75% off up front to make them $3, then use their $3 instant rebate to pay nothing, then use the $6 MIR to make $6.

The ad is horrible..
 
1. Make sure u have the aspi files or whatever they call them for the cdrw drives.
2. Then you put the cd-r in the burner and use cd-r identifier.
It will give you info on the dye. Then you can look up the dye at (the place I use) cdmediaworld.com

Most of us are familiar with the dyes though. 🙂
 
I tried to get the 75 % of straight but the manager said it is tied to the rebate. Rebate form says only one per person per household, family name, street address.
 
Just a Note,

I could not burn the Black CD-Rs I got last week at CompUsa. These were 16x CompUSA label Black. When I returned them the girl at the desk said she was getting a lot of these back with the same story.

My Philips 8x burner would lock up when trying to write. They are neat looking but, the claim that they are 100% compatable is not true.

Fanon, the caveat is that what CDR Identifier reads as manufacturer/dye is not necesserily true -- they have a pretty detailed discussion about that. I've never had any problems with Imation CD-Rs (black or otherwise), not a single bad disk out of many burned so far.

seems like they are they same as the regular Imation CDRs.

One complaint I have is how the hell do I label these?? It's all black so I can't use a pen to label it. I guess I will have to print some CD lables for this.

I also got the 50-pack 24x CompUSA brand CDRs that are free AR. Here's some info:

Significance of Black CDRs

From my discussion with someone today this is what I discovered.

Remember that there is a Laser writing information on your CD. It all has to do with the light spectrum
and the absorbtion of light. Apparently on the lighter colored CDs part of the laser beam is reflected back and
not all of it is absorbed by the CD itself. Thus the road/track/surface area that is laid down on black CDRs is
wider than those with light covered surfaces. This translates into a more reliable burn since it expands
the writing surface of the laid down track. Less volatile.

I am sure that with very sophisticated measuring equipment the above deviations would be quite obvious.
I don't know if this a purely academic exercise from the consumer's point of view.

It all has to do with physics. I know that all you guys liked it in school. (Actually can be quite challenging).
Solving 1st, 2nd and third order differential equations can give you quite a rush. Ditto for Newtonian particles.





 
This was a smoking deal.. I finally ran out of CD-R's.. between the 50 pack of Comp-branded 24x for free and the 100-pack of imations for $10 after MIR, I'm good for a while 😉
