I bought today several 20-packs of 16X Imation Black CDRs in slim cases for $12/pack. Tomorrow CompUSA will have 75% off all Imation 16X media, so these will be $3 each! No rebate, no hassle! I'll pricematch those I bought (there were a lot of those late tonight), and hopefully will be able to score some more tomorrow. It's only 16X, I know, but that's what my writer is anyway. At $3 per 20-pack in slim cases these are a nice deal.

The 12X Imation CDRs I bough about half a year ago were Tayo Yuden, I havent't tested the new ones yet. But you probably know that CDR brand names change manufacturers quite often, so you can never be sure 🙁

i bought two 20 packs from target two weeks ago for $2 each after rebate. so far so good.

i just hate they are black. you can't write anything on them. and i hear black is a hard color for some older lasers to pick up. i don't know.

Imations are still good even if they are CMC, well not as good as Taiyo Yudens.

I gotta say though, using a 24x Lite-On and a 24x Plextor, these new burners are really, really picky on cd media. Doh, maybe I shouldn't have gotten rid of my old burners.
 
The batch I bought are CMC Magnetics, indeed. Just ran CDr Identifier on them. Of course, usual caveats apply (see the CDR FAQ).

The CompUSA AD says $11.99 - $ 3 instant rebate - $ 6 Manufacturers mail-in rebate. So there is a rebate involved with this deal. :disgust: Is there a limit on how many spindles one can buy?????
 
I didn't believe what they said at cdrinfo.com but it is true. Both my liteon and plex 24x seem to make bad burns, not coasters. The media I have had a lot of trouble with are the ones from the 200 free cd-rs from OM. I won't mention what I burn, but lets say its some software. It will install as usual from CD and then in the middle of it, it will say it can't read one of the files. I burn it with a taiyo yuden and its fine. If this was once, I woulda just shrugged it off, this is with nero. Then I burned a game with CDR-Win. CD1 came out fine on the OM cd (Prime Peripheral). Then I burned CD2. CDR-win gave me an error during the burning process and BP was on and I was away from the computer. So I try another CD after rebooting, same brand, bad again. Then I popped in a Dysan and it worked fine. Several bad burns with audio cds also.

I use to have a 12x Plex and a 12x TDK with BP. Never had a media problem.

Could have been a hot deal if there is no mail in rebate, the site saids 25-pack 650mb. 11.99-3.00 instant-6.00 MIR = 2.99

I'm not sure about these but the PNY ones I bought are strange. Either they warp easy or if there is a little warp it messes up the way they are read. Had them in the car same as my other CDRs and they messed up faster.
 
I bought two spindles of 25 black yesterday and had the foresight to get them rung up seperately. One for me and one for Mom 🙂

Judging from the volume on the shelves at my CompUSA I think they will all be gone five minutes after the doors open or less unless they have more in back. I'll go back later and get my price adjusted.

They check out as manufacturer CMC magnetics. They are 1x-16x and are 700mb/80min not 650mb

I saw just 75% off on the CompUSA ad. If they really meant $3 off and $6 rebate, that's a so-so deal, especially if one per person. I'll try to get a straight 75% off the ones I bought today and see waht happens.

I'm down to my last 20 or so of those and i've only had a couple bad burns, over all they have been fine.
