I'm obviously a new member and this may be a little off-topic but what is Fry's?

Fry's is an electronic superstore. They sell anything and everything related to electronics and other things too. We have them in California.

These (Sony "V" series) are great TVs. You'll find them being closed out at a lot of stores because everyone is going with the new sony Wegas instead. (I am not positive but i *think* sony is discontinuing the V series TV as well)

Sony's "consumer grade" TV is the S series (KV-xxSxx) which you'll find at best buy etc. Then the "informed consumer" grade was the V series (KV-xxVxx) and the "enthusiast" grade would be the XBR.

Just FYI. ;-)

And you know they're good, because they're heavy as hell. I have a 32" V series (paid $1300 for it, ouch) and I think it weighs like 120 lbs)

flot,

Got mine....
The 35" is 198lbs.
Wow! A difference of almost 80lbs from the 32" Sony.
And heavy as hell!
The freaking box is almost to big to go through my front door!

But what a picture! Well worth the trouble...
(And a decent upgrade from my old 27" Sony...)

Had to do it....

Those letterbox DVD movies were just getting too small on my old TV.

And now for an entertainment cabinet that will hold it all. :)

Thanks, the_man !!
Looks like a great TV!
We love our 32" Sony(Trinatron)
Now you made me think about upgrading!
What is it about the weight that makes it a better set??

Thanks!!

Fry's is also a supermarket chain run by the electronics store chairman's cousins. The two stores are a half mile from one another where I live.

Does Sony warrant those TVs, or do you have to go through a repair center authorized by Fry's? Because if you buy a Sony from Sears, you have to use Sears service centers for warranty work.

Cyberian,
I think by the weight being high, they arn't skimping on the parts. The tube (the main part) has gotta be VERY strong!

larrymoencurly,
Sony has a 1 year warrenty on them. (From Sony)
I went ahead and purchased the extended for 4 years (at $120 or so)..
You never know what 'might' happen during that time. :)

I would check with video only....they will price match...

I got my sony 53" the new one (not hdtv) from them about 4 month ago
for $2,000 include a 5 yr warrenty plan...

full $400 lower than anywhere else....

***CAUTION***
Not so hot a deal.

Sony just dropped their prices on the WEGA
(flat screen) TV's to compete with the new
Panasonic and Zenith flat screens.

I just bought a 32-inch Sony WEGA for
$900 at Sears (retail price, not on sale).
If you shop around more, you should be able
to get a better deal or the same price on
higher-end WEGA TV's.

Why don't you all save your money on this lukewarm deal and get a High Definition TV instead? The resolution is exponentially better and it is a better investment (all non-digital TV signals are supposed to stop at around the year 2006),

jonnysnakes: It's dumb to spend $8,000 on HDTV. In 6 years HDTV's will cost just as much as TV's cost now, so only then I'll go and get one. Picture quality of HDTV's is SUPER NICE, but it's not worth that much.

My 21 inch monitor can do a better quality and higher res any day. :) I know it's not the same thing, but I just wanted to say it. I think I'll go shop around for a 32" WEGA, those are nice and price is acceptable.
