In my state CT, there is no store with DDR memory, you ask 'm and they think you are from other planet. Cicuit City have the Centron DDR memory for a good deal.

By the way I've had 2 sticks in my Epox 8K7A probably one of the pickiest boards I've had and it takes the centon like a champ. It uses Hynix chips by the way.
 
there are either Hynix or VT (nobody figured out which manufacturer is this)....
I have 3 of the VT type in my Epox and it works flawlessly....

IS this price still good? My local CC advertised the 256Meg PC2100 sticks for around $80 before a $10 rebate.

I got one of the VT sticks for $40 and am using it with no problems together with a Crucial stick in my Gigabyte GA-8IRXP mobo.

I think (too lazy to open the box to double check) it is single sided memory as well. That can come in very handy for folks with three RAM slots, since normally the mobo will accomodate a total of only four "sides" in those three slots. IOW, two double sided sticks means the third slot is useless.

Most sticks are double sided, so buying single sided increases your memory capacity now or your expansion options down the road.
 
I recently just bought a stick of 512mbs of pc2100 from Mushkin, it's just their standard stuff, but it was only like 107 shipped with no rebates or anything..runs great.

PC2400 is meant to run at DDR333. PC2100 is mean to run at DDR266.

i thought PC2700 runs at 333Mhz
 
Most quality DDR RAM (i.e. Crucial, Kingmax, Mushkin...etc) rated at PC2100 or more will run at at 166mhz FSB. The problem is the chipsets (i.e. KT266A, KT333) which do not officially support the 166FSB.

If you're overclcocking your motherboard you need quality RAM. If you're sticking with stock speeds then who really cares what brand you buy as long as it works.

IMO, when P4 platforms are more widely available with DDR memory, we will see a price drop in DDR prices. Until then, I'm doing just fine with my KT133A board with all my overclocking on it.
 
eh, $80 for 256 meg stick, I'll pass. I did order 5 at the $40 price when they had it though. 3 of them worked GREAT when tested. In fact, all three worked great at CAS 2. I had the VT type. I still have 2 sealed ones, I'm thinking of either keeping them for a future system (I mean its gonna be a LONG time till crucial hits $27 again, probably not this year, or not for a couple years, that was BELOW COST for them I belive), or eghey. I dunno. I haven't tried overclocking, but if it works at CAS 2 that's a good sign and bodes well for overclocking.
 
Thanks...Just bought one. Its amazing to find that this is one of the best DDR deals in some time. Damn shame really...

I also picked up one of the 500VA APC UPS for $79 (with $70 MIRs). Not bad if the rebate comes through.
 
i have 2 of these with fic board...both made by hynix
i think they(hynix) are about the same company as samsung, hyundai chip makers
