Good deal? Geforce 6600 - 512MB DDR = $99 AR?

Warm... 512 mb and 1000 mhz memory (assuming specs are true), dx 9.0c. Give it a shot if you want, it would approach GT performance (although a GT is also $100 AR right now, at Monarch) with 4x the memory. You could probably overclock the GPU to 375 or so. Good luck.

A 6600 is a lame duck. The memory bandwidth is vastly insufficient to make use of 256 MB, much less 512 MB.

This is one of the video card for idiots who only buy by the number of megabyte video memory.

Yeah, just go for the 6600GT at Monarch ($5 to ship): 6600 GT

I guess the company just wasted their and our time putting on the extra 384, then. Be that as it may, every little bit extra does help, if not significantly, and the point is you can approximate GT performance if overclocking (but we already know the GT is a better deal anyway since it also can overclock easy thus blowing 6600 out of the water).

Read the rules again. If you don't like the product don't bash it or worse, the people considering it.

Perhaps his word choice could have been better, but his intent was genuine. Anyone who is actually considering this card needs to be edjucated on just how useless putting 512MB on a card this slow really is.

It's like Honda putting two extra doors on a Civic and people thinking that a 6-door Civic is better than a 4-door just because it has more doors.

can i take the 512MB and swap the memory and then OC the speed on the ram for my dual SLI GTX setup
rofl
would be in for 2 if only GRAM is swappable

as other have posted 512mbs on a 6600 is a pure marketing gimmick. This card can barely take advanatge of 128mbs.

Isn't "dual SLI" redundant 😉

True, but hey I'm not the one interested. I just pointed out its specs. I have an x800xl so it has been a long time since I dealt with slow cards; pls forgive the ass-umption that 512 matters any. By the by, I wonder just how cheap it is for these mfrs to add RAM. Xmdia probably thinks cheap enough for the gimmick to net them some profits! By that logic, though, we would have seen more companies do it sooner. Or maybe it's that I simply don't remember.

Cheers

Dual Core vid cards + SLI... aka dual SLI

Which is still in its beta stages....

Dual Scalable Link Interface? Technically, that's a misnomer. It is still the same interface, just double the GPU cores. But I was just trying to tease and not be so technical. Have a

512 mb, is this really necessary?

The card can't make use of it. Its just a marketing product designed to fill the niche for people who aren't educated on videocards. If nvidia didn't make these abominations, ATI would get all the sales. Thats the only reason these kind of cards exist.

Companies have been doing it for years already....Any Geforce FX card with 256 MB of memory, Radeon 9250s with 256 MB of memory, 9550s, 6200s....all noob bait because they have too much memory and not enough horsepower to use it. Pointing this out is not threadcrapping, it's saving people from a bad hot deal.
