Circuit City has a doorbuster on an HP media center with the following specs for $549 after rebate. I'm not worried about the rebates, but want to know if this is a good deal.

Windows XP Media Center Edition
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1 GB RAM (don't know speed for sure)
200 GB SATA HD
DVD+R/+-RW dual layer w/ Lightscribe (unknown speed again)
9 in 1 card reader
15" LCD
cheapo printer

I expect the mobo to have a pci-e slot based on other HP's in this price range and it should come with a 400w psu based on the same observations. I don't need the LCD or printer but they come bundled by rebate. I'll probably sell the LCD unless I can think of a better use or want to have dual monitors (I have a Samsung 17" LCD right now that has DVI).

Thoughts?

post a link to the specific deal if its online.

From the sound of it, it sounds decent but depends on a few things such as how much the price is before rebate, etc etc.

That is definitely a nice sized HD and a lot of ram. Way more than Dell will give ya!;) Post more details

The computer is quite nice but you probably wont be happy with the monitor. Trust me I try as hard as I can every day not to sell them!=D

The stock might be limited with this PC. I know I havent seen many at my store. If you are thinking about getting it you might want to be one of the nutjobs that camps out at the store.

From what I can tell the price before rebate is 949.99, with $400 in rebates. The scanned ad online at gottadeal.com that I've seen is rather blurry for the superfine print they put rebate details in. Note that the rebates do not include any assumption of an AOL subscription.

The printer is actually a Lexmark print/scan/copy. Still cheapo, but better than just a printer.

I'm going to try and swing by a Circuit City tomorrow to see if I can get more info on the unlisted details. Not much to go on from the ad.

I hate mail-in rebates, those mail-in should be banned. Only instant rebats should be allowed.

The Lexmark is worse then just a printer! It uses one cartridge for black and color and it is a bit pricy. I would rather have a decent printer then a crappy printer/scanner.
