yeah but the k7s5a pro takes both ddr and sdram and its nice if you have some spare pc100 or pc133 modules layin around.

These things have their little annoyances, but they take a good beating. I had problems disconnecting my ps from a board, & accidentally let loose on it. The ps flew across my desk, & slammed into one of the other crunchers using this board. It quickly shut down, & I was afraid I destroyed it. A quick unplug & reinstall of its ps is all it needed to get up & running again. One quirk I do have is that the bios sometimes forgets its settings, & you'll have to manually point it to your hd, along with adjusting some of the smaller settings. Also, it doesn't seem to recognize plug & play hardware(kb & mouse) or your lan connection, unless they are inserted prior to a boot-up.

The last problem is from what I have experienced, so it may just be a problem I have. The other problem is a common known problem though. Not that big of a deal, if you just leave the rigs crunching on a big cache for days at a time. Good board for the price.

Spring is right around the corner. Buy some planting seeds & grow some cheap produce. Fast a little for the TeAm.

Coquito - do you find the Pro has this problem? I know the previous version had the CMOS issue, but I didn't think the Pro did.

I don't have enough xps to tip the ecs scales, however... if someone can find a nice deal on a set of retail boards for me to run those new fangled xp mobiles everyone is talking so highly of. The abit NF7-S V2 is on a tiny bit of a sale for $92 a pop(limit 1. ugg), but it would be nice if I could find something that could clock just as well for a little cheaper. All the refurbs are oem, & I can't go that route. It would be a shame if these processors were to just sit here for a month. Could someone help me find a nice nest for these guys?

I'm using 3 pro boards currently. I received them with a modded oc bios already installed, so maybe that could be an issue.

I've installed numerous K7S5A Pro boards without incident - they don't have a cmos problem and they don't seem to have the plug and play issues mentioned either. It may just be that board.

I'd say they're a pretty solid board to use for a cruncher ot two, or 8 for that matter.

As was previously mentioned, they're good for sticking in a spare stick of PC133 to cobble together a cruncher!

Out of the 6 I have, 1 of them displays the CMOS problem, kinda of a pain since it's sitting on the rack and if I reboot I need to hook a monitor and keyboard to it to reset the BIOS. I haven't tried to figure out why that board does it and the others don't since I haven't rebooted it in the past 3 months.

The k7s5a pro has no cmos problems whatsoever! I have 2 and O/Ced to run at 147/147 with xp 2400+(factory locked) . very stable and no problems ! No more psu problems either like the K7S5A had. Get the cheepoman bios Here.

There are a few limitations like just set speeds but worth the update.

The only time i've had this problem is when the battery is dead...have you made sure the battery is good? I know, I know, that would be the first thing we would obviously check..but I've missed the obvious things before :)

Just putting in my 2-cents worth.

That is exactly what I am using. It could just be the batch that it came from, that has a problem with it. Every time I need to reboot, 1 out of the 3 almost always goes on me. It's a quick fix, & almost a non-concern, once the proper network is set up.

The three boards are running xp1800s @ 150/150. Anything above that, & it won't boot. Anyone using this bios with a tad more? What hsf are you using?

Years ago, when I was backpacking across Western Europe... I was just outside Barcelona hiking in the foothills of Mount Tibidabo. I was at the end of this path and I came to a clearing and there was a lake, very secluded. And there were tall trees all around. It was dead silent. Gorgeous. And across the lake I saw... a beautiful woman... bathing herself... but she was crying...

hell for $21 its worth a risk even if it just lasts 6 months. ive already used 3 of the k7s5a pro boards (just like this one) and the only issue i had was it recognizing the correct speed of my processor, on one board, but i manually adjusted the settings and it worked great and has been crunching seti 24/7 for the past 6 months without any issues :)
