well i got approved for the first time since my bankruptcy in 1999 for a Capital One Platinum card. yeah big deal anyone can can get one lol. funny platinum used to be a sign of the highest credit possible but now it means nothing.

but my g/f says capital one is a junk CC company with alot of fee's and this and that.

so is that true ?

who would you recommend i apply to for a CC ? and if you have time tell me why please.

I need to build up the ol line of credit as much as i hate to do it. I swore after my bankruptcy that i wouldnt do CC anymore, and i have no intensions of using this unless its an emergency (car break down or something, or for Identity)

thanks in advance.

I have both a CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select and an AMEX Blue Cash. Love 'em both.

What kind of fees?

All I can think of is an application fee (one time) and annual fee.

There's also late fees and over the limit fees but CitiBank (and all other cc's) charge this as well. This can be avoided if you simply budget and make all your payments on time. Also if you payoff your balance in full every month, there should be no finance charges.

So please tell us, what kind of fees?

I don't have an annual fee, nor did I have an application fee when I got it six years ago. The only fees I have been ASSessed from them is a late fee when I was 19, and an overlimit fee (damn porn). They've been good to me and I got the card when I was 17 (now 23).

I'm currently enjoying my Discover Gas Card, and Discover and fees are almost synonymous.

Citibank has been the only card I've used for several years now. They may not have the lowest interest rate, but I pay mine off each month so that doesn't matter.
Excellent fraud protection, no fees, and good customer service.

I currently use the Platinum Dividends for most purchases and I use an AMEX Delta card for others so i can earn miles. Both are good cards and the interest rates dont really affect me since i dont carry a balance.

Why are you applying everywhere then? I can't imagine all those inquiries are helping you.

im nnot applying everywhere. i applied for 1 card got approved but havent activated it yet. so all i gotta do is cut it up and burn it.

Seems that the Citi Card is the best way to go from you gentlemen, ive applied and will wait and see what happens.

Im also gunna call Capital One and talk to them and find all the fee's and see what i can make of their services. Same for Citi i'll call them too.

Een thoigh you haven't activated yet. It is still on your credit report so even if you don't want it you still have to call and close the account. This may not look good as far as credit scoring.

Please tell me you actually read the terms and conditions before applying for the Capital One cc? It should clearly spell out all the fees and what they're for.

Blue Cash>Citi dividend for the simple fact that you can't earn more than $300 in a year with the citi card. I get far more than that with my Amex. I guess Blue Cash isn't that good if you don't spend much money as you don't start making a hinger percent until you've broken $6500 for the year.

Well I'd say Amex Plat, but I'm not sure in your situation if you could get it. The 395 Annual Feew was made up in just a few days of travel. 250 dollar damage to rental car? Paid by Amex instantly. 150 dollar statement credit for a decline at a store after I already talked to Membership services about traveling in Mexico AND 15k Reward Points. Access to Crown Rooms and Presidents Clubs at Airports, etc. Within just a weeks time the annual fee is already meaningless.

Blue Cash

$0 - $6,500 1.0% 0.5%
$6,500.01 - $50,000 5.0% 1.5%

After the 50k I think everything goes to 1.5%
I have a USAA master card that's 1.25% on everything.

tip for OP. freeze your CC in a bowl of water. Thus if you ever need your card you have to sit there and spend the time to try to retrieve it, giving you the opportunity to really think "do I NEED to make this purchase?"

After 50k you get 0% with the blue cash card.

That is all the relevant information. (1) you have problem with credit, and (2) you don't want to pay off your credit card bill in full every month. Conclusion. Tear up the card you just got. Never apply for another card until both (1) and (2) change. Stay far, far away from the credit cards. There is no *good* credit card for you.

Someone who can handle a credit card would never pay any fees (I'm not going to complicate this with the credit cards for millionaires so forget flaming me Anandtech), so your question about fees would not be relevant.

The first percent is "everyday purchases"
Everyday Purchases are purchases made at U.S. supermarkets, gas stations and drug stores that are not departments of superstores or warehouse clubs.

Travelers. I've already gotten my annual fee back and most of the benefits I've got with my card are so over and beyond what you normally get that I'd pay 1000 for it.
