Good CPU temp?

I have a SoyoTek K7V Dragon PLUS (KT266a chipset) with an Athlon XP 1800+

I know the bios doesnt give an accurate reading, but what is the highest the CPU temp should go to? I bought a Heatsink that I can put resistors on the fan to make it more quiet and currently I almost can not even hear my computer running, but im concerned about what temperature is considered dangerous for the Athlon XP 1800+

So, any input on this subject would be most welcome. And remember, all im using to measure it with is what the BIOS says the "CPU temperature" is.

well, i'd try a windows program to read temps... that way you can get an idea of what your "load" temp is.... BIOS temps are often neither load nor idle, and often and different cpu loads across different MB's.

For full load, i'd go no higher than 20C over system temp.

Don't go over 65 centigrade.
 
Use Motherboard Monitor to view your CPU temps in Windows. Those temperatures will be more indicative of what your CPU is typically registering.

Like Daovonnaex said, 65C is a good threshold mark. If you have a good CPU fan and case fans, you shouldn't get near 65C even during full load.

Thts my personal limit as well. 😀 >>

I was able to run a Palomino core up to 74 centigrade before it shut off, but performance became erratic and unstable at anything past 67 centigrade. Given margins of error and possible temperature fluctuations, I decided that 65 centigrade was a good level.
