If you have a controller for your favorite console, just get a usb converter to use that controller on your pc. I have one for my Playstation2 controller and I love it.

Any particular emulation platform you have in mind?

I have the Logitech Rumblepad 2 and it works great for general emulation. If you have any PS2 or original Xbox controllers, you can also pickup a USB adapter for them cheap off Ebay.

Something like this is what I was talking about. I would buy one that wouldn't be shipped all the way from Hong Kong though, lol.

Fry's Electronics usually has the converter on sale, as it is cheap enough to buy B&M.

I find the original XBOX's controller to be the best one.

And I do mean the supposedly "bulky" one, not the pity full "revised" ones. Because the bulky one has the layout of an arcade board, with two rows of three buttons each, which in turn makes it ideal and perfect especially for fighting games and also racing games (in my opinion). I occasionally play Killer Instinct on MAME and I wouldn't see myself trying to to the light kicks and punches with two missing buttons that'd be located "under" the controller, either as triggers or even on top like the L and R SNES buttons (which was the reason why I hated the SNES port of KI too).

But yes, that's all just my opinion, so basically it's meaningless indeed.

I picked up a Logitech Dual Action controller for $28. Didn't need the rumble feature. The button layout is basically the same as a PS2 controller.

I just have a cheap generic USB one from Wal-Mart. I'd use a console controller but I don't have any.

Are you serious? Wow, you are the absolute first person I've ever seen with that opinion. Not that its bad I guess, but you are definetely in the very small minority on that one.

I agree with the others on the PS2 adapter, PS2 controllers are my fav, but I would recommend one like this if you need a bit more distance

Just get the wired Xbox360 controller. Seriously its worth it. Plus if you ever do happen to get an Xbox360 it'll work on that too.

Why wired when you can do wireless as well?

Yes I am serious.

But maybe it's because I have big hands. That controller is very comfortable for me and I like the Genesis-era layout of it.

I think that Logitech makes great gamepads.

I have personally been using the Cordless Rumblepad 2 for a couple years now. I like it much better than the standard PS2 controller, which it's modelled off of. If I could, I'd use it for my PS2 as well. I can't think of any problem I've had with it throughout the whole time I've used it. It's heavier than the standard gamepad, if that's an issue.

Besides the controller itself, I also like that XP SP2 and all versions of Vista come ready to use it out of the box.
