Good controller pads for emulators like snes, nes, mame?

Want something like a USB game pad resembling the look and feel of the original SNES controller. Should be able to use 2 controllers at the same time without issues. Is this possible? Any recommendations?

I use the Gravis Game Pad Pro. It's shaped like the old PS1 controllers, but they are the best controllers I've ever used.

Great stuff. Last question would be that I remember a few years ago when I played Street Fighter II or something on the PC that the controllers couldn't map as many buttons and I can press at once. I think it was limited to something like 4 commands at a time and that really ruined gameplay for certain games. Do these suffer from that effect as well? Or it's all good? That PS2 controller adapter looks like what I need.

Some of the PS2->USB adapters have lag issues. I've been wanting some one in the know to point out one that is known to not have that issue.

I like my Saitek, but the right joystick axises rotated 90° in most games bugs the hell out of me.

I had a pair of Saitek low-end digital USB joypads (P-150 or something?), and they seemed way too sensitive on the D-pad. Trying to do a fireball in any SF2 made me jump, etc. I've had really great luck using a couple of PSX-USB adaptors from Radio Shack (~$10), combined with original PS1 Sony dual-shock controllers. Before I picked up those USB adaptors, I also built my own LPT-PSX adaptor, based on the plans that used to be available at ziplabel.com, the "DPadPro" plans/drivers. It worked really well. All it takes to build, is a few diodes, a 25-pin D-sub shell, a PSX extension cable, and some soldering skills. (And an additional AC/DC "power brick" if you want to support force-feedback/rumble in the pads, but I didn't really care about that. I hate the "rumble" feature. :p)

They're hard to find these days, but the older gameport-connector version of the MS Sidewinder digital gamepads were excellent too. But they have limited support in newer NT-based OSes, and don't really work right when daisy-chaining multiple pads together. To say nothing about the lack of 15-pin gameports on modern mobos. The USB-PSX adaptor is the best solution, IMHO. If you need more players/pads, just plug them into a USB hub. No problem.

PS. Jandaman is cool, I'd have to give that site the primary recommendation for ordering them from, and other sites only if he doesn't have them.

Edit: Saitek P150 review
The directional pad is designed poorly. It is prone to point diagonally, whatever you do.

one thing i didn't like about the gravis pad is that the whole D-Pad is 1 peice. With ps2 controllers, they are 4 diff peices for the up, down, left, and right. So for example if i'm playing a racing game, and i push the right button, i may accidentally be pushing the down at the same time and with most racing games up and down is what controls speed and there's no way to disable that. so instead of turning right, i'd also slow down when the down key is slightly touched. is there another gamepad out there thats good and wont give me this problem?

The d-pad is 1 piece if you ever take one apart, but having the directions seperated like they are on the PS pads is the greatest. I seriously wish more gamepads were like that. Much more comfortable on the thumb.

I use Gravis GamePad Pro for my VirtualBoy Advance. Looks exactly like a PS1 controller, except for the D-pad which is one piece. Very good quality.

I have a USB adaptor the lets you plug in up to two PS1 or PS2 controllers. Pretty nice stuff, I love the Playstation controllers more than any other console.

Edit: I just saw ace post something similar, except I got mine in Taiwan and it doesn't support vibration (I think).

Oh, also, I haven't used it, but someone I know picked up a PSX-lookalike controller at Wal-Mart for $15, it was designed for the PC, with a USB connector, and a built-in retractable cord. I have no idea whether the "feel" is good, but that could be another option, possibly slightly cheaper than the Sony PSX pad + USB-PSX adaptor combo.

The radioshack one is supposed to support vibration. I haven't tried though.

I want a SNES adapter to usb.. but I don't have a SNES controller. I love the SNES controller for SF2T. :)

My biggest beef with the PS1/2 controllers is with the D-PAD having no plastic between the arrows. The SNES controller didn't have that space between the arrow keys. I know that they're all 1 piece but the freakin hole bugs the hell out of me for certain games. Street Fighter is impossible with the PS1/2 controllers.

I've never seen that. I have to see a pic of that! I've seen most of the old consoles before and I don't remember the PS controller directional pad to be just 1 piece. I wonder why they changed it so quickly then..

snes -> usb It's not really that cheap though. $25 shipped just to have SNES controller on pc... I don't know if it's worth it... well, maybe if I didn't already have 2 PS adapters..
