Good Consumerdepot.com deals: Matrox Mystique 220 + Rainbow Runner Video Capture Board - $9, 56k PCI modem - $3

In the video card section they have a "Mystique 220 PCI 4MB w/Rainbow Runner Software" for $9. I just got it and it's the Mystique video card along with the full retail package of the Rainbow Runner video capture daughter board(it includes all the software, cables, etc.). This reminds me of the $20 Matrox G200-TV deal they had. They also have a PCTel based 56k V.90 PCI Winmodem for $3. Shipping was also reasonable.

Thanks for the heads-up. I happen to have one of these Matrox Mystique 220 + Rainbow Runner combos (from 4 years ago though) and they work very nicely as long as you're using Windows Me or lower. Anyhow, I can't believe the value of the combo is now only $9! LOL. That's technology progression isn't it :)

No thread-crapping intended, but I would advise everybody ordering from them read their ResellerRatings first.

Peace

Just received one of these a few days ago. The video cards are open box. My box was all beat up but the card looked ok and worked ok. Based on previous experience with ConsumerDepot these are problably returns and RMAs that someone (maybe Matrox) has been holding onto for awhile and finally decided to sell them in the surplus PC parts market. ConsumerDepot has 100+ last time I checked. I added it as a third video card in a PC at work. The rainbow runner box looked new. I have not played around with it yet.

Ouch! Shipping on two floppies and the Matrox combo is $10.95 to Mpls (cheapest shipping option).

My Mystique box was also kind of beat up while the Rainbow Runner was still shrink wrapped but I tested everything out earlier and it was good. Best deal I've gotten in a while.

Can anyone tell me what comes with the package? The rainbow runner card and the Mystique card? When I try to order the item, it said the Mystique card and rainbow runner software.....but never mention the card...I guess it should come with the rainbow runner card, or the s/w is useless, am I assuming right? Also, can anyone tell me if the card can do a mpeg1 hardware real time encoding???

Thanks.

The package contains two retail boxes. One box (the open box) contains a standard Matrox Mystique 220 4MB PCI video with manual and software. The second box (looks unopened) contains the Rainbow Runner daughter board that attaches to the video card, video and audio cables, manual and software. I haven't tried the RR stuff so I can't comment on the mpeg1 function.

This looks pretty hot misstress sarah,

Which card did you guys order, there's like 5 or so cards listed with different stuff for each one.

Also, does this come with TV tuner or TV-out?

The one to order is something like "Mystique 220 4MB PCI w/Rainbow Runner software" and it's $9(there is only one like it). It has a breakout cable with S-Video In/Out and Composite video in/out(it also comes with RCA to 3.5mm cables to connect your sound source to your computer).

Yeah the screwed a bunch of people about a year ago on some other matrox vid cards. They shipped out an enormous load of cards that had bad bioses and most of us ended up flashing it outselves by booting up on PCI vid cards; otherwise it was a BS return shipping loss.

So does the "studio" have a tv tuner to watch tv on the monitor, or did I mis-read the .pdf file?

No TV Tuner. What my brother and I did on our older PII system (with this video card and daughter board) was just hook the line-in to our VCR, which was relaying the antenna signal. Worked just fine. If you want a dedicated TV Tuner, you'll have to dig up the aged Rainbow Runner TV (I believe that was what it was called) ISA card. Obviously, it won't work in XP, but Win95/Win98, would be just fine.

Peace

The above link for the TV tuner card is a little different than what this thread covers. From what I can tell, that link is for the G-Series Rainbow Runner card (one that works with the Matrox G-200, G-400, etc video cards), which has a built in TV tuner. The Rainbow Runner cards we are talking about are the older original ones which must use a seperate ISA TV tuner card. I don't believe Consumer Depot has these.

Also, as everyone else said, the Mystique card is definately used, although it seems to work fine. The Rainbow Runner card looked new, still in the shrink wrap.

I've been to the Consumer Depot B&M store here in Nashville where they stock all the same stuff that you can also order online. It's a sketchy looking place in a strip mall. The main thing to know is that the condition of the items varies immensely. You see beaten up, stepped on boxes sitting on top of pristine shrinkwrapped ones. When you go into the store, you can choose the shrinkwrapped box. When you order online, it's a crapshoot, and given their subpar return policy, risky. . . .

.got all hooked up, tried different things with it such as a couple of 3d games and screen resolutions everything seemed ok

go to dial up to go check on driver updates at the homesite and as soon as i click on connect on dial up manager , my puter reboots!

and this was my dream puter in 97..
sad but true
was still pretty happy with it cause of my personal choice of games and such until this past christmas when someone in the family decide to give me a buttload of 3d games and i was still pretty good on all aspects of the requirements except for the need for a 3d card
i know there has to be a fairly simple solution to this
