I know MIT, but that is way out of my league. Somewhere around NJ, which is around my home state.

I got to Rutgers in NJ and am doing EE, the CS is ok here, but i think the classes are too large.

Haha. Looking back I realized that it sounded that way. In order from worst to best IMO would be:
TCNJ<Stevens<NJIT<Drexel<CMU

not in that order

Stevens is a good school, has very good student computing services, but it is very expensive ~30k+ a year, for that ammount of moent you could go to a better school.

EE is Electrical Engineering

Trenton state is now referred to as TCNJ.
In order, I'd rank them CMU, NJIT, Drexel, TCNJ, Stevens, from best to worst.

NJIT is aiight (I go there ;))
Stevens is ok too, but its expensive as hell, go there if you have the moolah.
If you can, check out Princeton too

BTW, there is a plan underway to merge UMDNJ, NJIT, and Rutgers into one university. If it happends, then graduating from any of these colleges will be awesome.

Bucknell, Lehigh, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Penn State ... there are a bunch.

I graduated from Bucknell in '02 with a Computer Engineering degree ... got a nice job right away in upstate NY. Had offers in NJ too.

This is about the list I would have chosen. Perhaps with the additions of Cooper Union(incredibly amazing school, on par with MIT tho I'm not sure about the specific CS program).

Sorry. not really. It is a great school for engineering, but the only school I would say is on par with MIT is Caltech, and CMU for CS. That's it.

Yeah, I'd have to say you are absolutely wrong. Tech has a nationally ranked program. Nothing against JMU, but their program is not as prestigious. I did undergrad and grad at VT so you can call me bias, but US News reports will back me up.

What's EE? jesus stick with your local school for a couple years, I think you may be wasting everyone's time otherwise.

You can't really compare Cooper Union to a normal university... isn't it an undergrad-only school? I've heard it's the most or second-most difficult school to get into though.

The best schools for general overall CS are CMU, MIT, Stanford, and Berkeley. However, you should reserach on your own instead of listening to people on the Internet. The average person here would say Bubbaville State is excellent. Here's the rankings of GRADUATE cs programs... maybe it reflects undergrad a little bit. maybe more helpful....

Also sticking to known research schools is smart, these will usually be surrounded by companies and work closely with the college....you get to work on budding technology usually.

i thought NJIT was supposed to become a part of the Rutgers - Newark campus?

That all depends on your perspective. I have ruminated more than once here on ATOT about the dangers of allowing "research" to stand in the way of "education." Nothing worse than a professor who sees teaching as a burden that stands in the way of his research.

No, under the proposed plan; Rutgers (Newark and Brunswick), NJIT, and UMDNJ will be merged into a university system much like California's. The only problem is that there are a fair amount of critics (mainly Rutgers faculty :|) to the plan which has prevented the ball from rolling... they are trying to work out compromises.
If it does happend, it would definitely put these colleges higher up in the rankings.
