"Good" companies....

gopunk

Lifer
you know... the ones that don't seem evil 😛

i've thought of:

google
ben & jerry's
dick's (local burger chain)

You know that Ben & Jerry's sold out to one of the huge corporations, right? I forget which one.

Microsoft. 😛😉

actually i am impressed with Microsoft Research (and it's various counterparts in China and elsewhere). i like how they are spending time on fundamental research, and not just research that has an immediate payoff. i'm also a fan of Intel and their lablets. they put them close to major universities and require cooperation between the lab and the university. it's very open, unlike most corporate research.

There are no good companies. All are evil. Actually, though, I think you need to re-qualify your criteria:

1) Are you looking for companies that are "good" to their customers?
2) Are you looking for companies that are "good" to their employees?
3) Are you looking for companies that are "good" to their shareholders?

I think it's kind of hard to find one company that scores high marks under all 3 areas. Sure, they do exist, but they are few and far between. 😉

i am looking for companies that everybody seems to like... whether it is because they have good products, good service, or whatever. this isn't so much definitive as it is subjective. google, btw, fills all 3, except they aren't a public company 😛

oh i thought of another two:

krispy kreme
iriver

Bioware
Black Isle Studios (but parent Interplay is evil and incompetent)
id
Looking Glass (R.I.P.)
Sir-Tech (R.I.P.)

Crutchfield
Lands End
Sees Candies (mmmm, chocolatey <homer drool /> )

So definitely good -- Buffet warned people about tech mania, and his philosophy is buy-and-hold instead of pushing for the short-term returns.

That reminds me of Bush's jackoff responce to Enron about how it hurt the shareholders and how they needed to be helped. The freakin' employees are the ones that should have been mentioned not the freakin' shareholders.

I assume that by "good", you mean possessing integrity. I'd say that the majority of large corporations have integrity. We just tend to hear about the bad ones.
