Good comedians to listen to?

Well, it depends on what sort of humor you like, doesn't it? Do you like clean humor? Do you prefer your comedy blue? Would you rather hear stories, bits, observations or one liners? Who have you found funny in the past? If you can give me a basic idea of what you find funny, I'm sure I could recommend some comedy you would enjoy (since I basically like it all).

Offhand, I'd recommend Daniel Tosh. I just discovered him recently (he was mad when I planted that flag), and he's great. Demetri Martin is also fantastic, though a lot of his humor is visual, so I don't know how well it would work as audio (but definitely get the DVD "Person," which contains two Demetri Martin Comedy Central specials that are both fantastic).

Steven Wright is good for a road trip because you can start or stop his album anywhere and not feel like you're missing the flow of the show, since it's just an hour of one liners. On the flip side, story-based comedians like the Blue Collar guys (especially Ron White) can also be fun for a road trip, since listening to amusing stories while you drive down the road can make the time fly by.

George Carlin is my favorite comedian of all time. Just buy every CD he has put out and listen to them in chronological order (or, for a nice bi-polar touch, try alphabetically; listening to Class Clown and following it with Complaints and Grievances, you'd swear you were listening to two different people). You could drive across the country and not realize it cause you'd be laughing too hard to care where you were going.

I hate double posting, but I just have to ask, can anyone who recommends Dane Cook point me to some of his material that you find funny? I've seen about 20 minutes of his HBO special (I don't remember if it was Tourgasm or Vicious Circle), and I did not even crack a smile. Is his earlier material better? Or am I just not "getting it?"

Brain Posehn is a trip

Oh and about Dan Cook, I'm with you guys.. my friend likes him a lot, or at least use to before I pointed out how f*cking incredibly not funny he was. I watched the same special with him and all it made me want to do was kick his ass. He laughs like the damn lion from wizard of oz and his jokes are not even the slightest bit funny whatsoever. Idk where this hype came about him from.. hes a tard.

That's how I felt about him. He is just loud and then waits for people to laugh. And he's incredibly full of himself. I was reading his wiki entry, and apparently he set a record by performing for six straight hours at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood. And I'm wondering if those six hours were like what I've seen of him. If they were, wow, I am so glad I wasn't in the audience.

I like Bill Hicks, Carlin too. With George, when you tire of his rant, you can load up his narration of thomas the tank engine instead.

Russell Peters, Brian Regan, Mitch Hedberg, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Bill Engvall, Ron White.

I own his Harmful If Swallowed and Retalliation albums and think they are hilarious. One bit that always cracks me up is: "Someone shit on the coats."
