I'm trying to find some good quality headphones that will keep sound in and other sounds out. I don't want any noise-cancellation stuff because they generally don't sound as good and the ones that do sound good cost waay too much. I was looking at the Koss UR-40's, but i was turned off to that idea when i realized that (contrary to koss's info on their website) they aren't even closed headphones.. :confused:

Also, I would buy the Sony MDR-V6's but I can't find them ANYWHERE.. so there has to be another option.

I'm looking at the MDR-V600's now, what do you guys think? Anyone know any other good headphones like this under $100?

I got some cheap Sony ones from Wally Wolrd and I love them. If you mean closed as in enveloping your entire ear...

Yea, closed meaning that they not only cover your entire ear, but they also isolate sound..

Here's a picture of the Koss UR-40's i was talking about: link

As you can see, they completely cover the ear, but the grill on the side lets all sound in and out. Basically i'd like to not be able to hear the hum of my computer when i have my headphones on.

I haven't heard the MDR-V600s, but I have MDR-V300s, and they are pretty good. Nice low end for relatively cheap headphones; the high end could be better, but hey, they are cheap. . .

EDIT: and they keep out sound just fine. . .

v6 = v7506 = good

I would also recommend the HD280s

i've heard that before many times, but i tried a pair of the V600's today, and they weren't that bad..

v6 = v7506 = out of production! only place to get these that i know of is ebay and they are always used..

Sennheister HD280: hmm.. never looked at these before, are they any good at keeping sound out? i found a pair on ebay for 74 bucks, is that a good deal?

HD280 is REALLY good for blocking out any outside sound.

However.. the quality BLOWS@ss compared the Grado 80s.

HD580 all the way :D

HD580 costs twice as much as the HD280.. i'm not much of an audiophile so i can't really justify the difference in price, as long as it seals out sounds and keeps sound in, and sounds decently good, it's fine by me.

I don't think the 80's seal any sound at all..
