Good (cheap) tequila for margaritas

Can anyone recommend a good CHEAP tequila for margaritas? I usually drink Patron silver and Herradura silver by themselves, but I don't want to waste it in a margarita.

Are the differences big enough with cheap tequila that I shouldn't just buy the cheapest stuff I can find? If they ARE big enough that I'll know the difference, what should I get that won't break the bank?

exactly. usually i consider cuervo the nastiest of the nasty, but in a margarita, its a cheap tequila that wont be wasted on shots (patron works nicely for shots).

I'll stick with my Cabo Anejo.

Not that Patron is bad though!

they just opened up a restaurant that is walking distance from my house that boasts to having over 600 tequilas. patron and cabo and tres generaciones and don julio oh my!

I need to find a place like that in the DC area. I can't justify dropping $40+ on a bottle to find out that it sucks. I like the white/blanco/silver tequilas more than the reposados or anejos.

Anyone tried Patron platinum? $217 a bottle here! :Q

I wouldn't be throwing Don Julio or Tres Generaciones or Herradurra into a margharita if I were you. After a few drinks, no one is going to be tell whether you used $200 Herradura or the much cheaper Jose Cuervo or Sauza, so go for the cheap stuff. Unless, of course, this is a one on one situation and you're trying to impress a lady, in which case you might wanna get something a bit more mid to upper range, esp. if the lady knows her tequilas 😉

No such thing as "good" cheap tequila.

Since you gonna mix the crap out of it, just go with sumin cheap. Preferably a blanco rather than gold.

Cheap tequila is what gives you diarrhea and hangovers. I would not go LOWER than Cuervo Gold, but even that is risky...if I wouldn't drink it straight up, I wouldn't drink it in a margarita, either.
