Good cheap laser printer?

I'm looking for a cheap laser printer. B&W is all I need, and speed doesn't matter all that much. All I really care about is having good cartridges and decent reliability. Anybody know of particular models? I'm hoping to keep it under $150. Thanks.

Samsung ML-1710 is pretty decent for us up here in Canada. Toner refills are ubercheap too.

If you can find a Hot Deal (or GottaDeal.com deal) on last year's Brother HL-5040 that's what I have.

Carts are easy to get from Office Depot, - Max, Staples & etc., and print speed and paper handling are a bit better than the under-$100 Samsungs (which are good too, if slow).

. . . and search "laser" in General Hardware for a bunch of threads on this.

Search around for toner/drum issues on this one before you buy it though. I bought one over a year ago and I'm getting black ink streaked across the pages of all of my prints. Sad thing is is that the drum is >= the price of the printer~ 😕 (But other than that it's a great printer 😉 😀)

Find a reputable shop and get a used HP LaserJet 4+. These are the best printers they ever made, I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of them are still in service. The five that I maintain haven't even need a fuser or roller change in 10 years, and this is at an accouting firm.

i bought one 1+ years ago, works great. i don't print that much, so i expect the drum to last long enough to make it worth replacing it when the drum goes out (vs replacing it, see the comment above)

if you need a heavier duty printer, then get a used HP

Get a Minolta 1350W or a Samsung ML-1710. I've had the Brother HL-1440 along with the current Minolta here. The Brother's drum does in fact degenerate pretty quickly (ours was streaking in a year), so buyer beware.
