Good cheap 19 inch CRT.

Im in the market for a new 19 inch monitor, and at Newegg they have several below 200 bucks. Im not willing to spend over 200 bucks on a monitor, but I am adamant about going to 19 inches. Unfortunately I know practically nothing about monitors lol.

What im asking the good people of anandtech's forums is for a reccomendation on a good budget priced 19 inch CRT. Newegg has several in my desired price range.

On page 2 of that they have several that are below 200 bucks as well that are not in stock yet. If anyone has any particularly good experiences with any of neweggs monitors i would appreciate your input. The one im looking at most closly is the very first one on the list, the Hitachi V900 http://secure.newegg.com/app/specification.asp?item=24-134-026

The reason I like it is of course the price, and the fact that it also does 85HZ refresh at 1280x1024 and its dp of .22. Its not flat screen though.

Any input from folks with more experience with monitors is greatly appreciated.

You are asking a specific question and I'm answering with something you didn't ask for, sorry in advance if this is of no use.

But I am looking at this thread on my 21" Black IBM P260 flat 1600x1200 @85 hz .24 dot pitch Sony Trinitron, got it shipped last week. It is just great. Used. Your price range. Let me know if you need more info.

For only 200 dollars your options will be limited as far as flat screen 19 inchers. But definitely your best option would be the Samsung Dynaflat Syncmaster 955DF. This is an extremely popular monitor because it's a great value compared to other cheap 19 inch flat screens.

Now, while the Samsung is a nice display, it doesn't really compare to the monitors that are more expensive. And I wouldn't recommend many monitors that are in between 200 or 300 dollars. There are several Viewsonics in this range, but many of the models have drawbacks, particular with the sharpness of text. I think it is well worth to pay around 300 dollars for the Mitsubishi diamond pro 930sb or its NEC clone. But those are out of your price range.

The Hitachi is decent, but if you can only spend 200 dollars, definitely go with the Samsung instead because flat screen will make all the difference in the world. I really recommend you don't get a non-flat CRT if possible.

You might wanna look into a refurbished 21" monitor. They can be had for around $200 and they use to be like high end monitors. YMMV though. I've had good experience with refurbished monitors. I've been using my 21" Nokia for over a year now and I only spent $200 on it and I love this monitor. My monitor can do 1900 something @75 or 72 Hz, but I set it at 1600x1200 @85 Hz because most games can't play anything higher anyways.

I just recently bought one of these and its a very good monitor. I recommend it.
Also the Vewsonic E90f is a good choice.

Dynaflat monitors are not flat. The glass is flat, but the tube is round.

The place is called CompuCycle, down in Texas. They have a store on eBay and often sell monitors there.

THe guy in charge is called Daniel, I just wrote a glowing review of his operation for the library technicians Gazette at college which I edit, and he wrote back thanking me. A great guy to deal with, stands behind his merchandise 100% if there were to be a problem of some sort and will always answer your email promptly and personally. Buy with confidence.

I don't know if he has any of the Stealth black P260's left but if he does I'd snap it up. You'd have been lucky to get this thing for a thousand bucks a couple of years ago. I guess if I try hard I can find super minor scratches in unimportant places, but it looks and works just like new. Truly great. The one I have may well be exceptional and unusually good as far as appearance, but your worries are over if you buy from this man. You might just email him directly and ask. Tell him the library technician's Gazette editor referred you and I'm sure he will appreciate it and maybe even pick one out personally, as he did for me after I told him of my problems getting a clapped out junk P260 from another eBay store. Once burned, twice shy and I was cautious. He practically held my hand and this Black IBM made by Sony with that big, sharp flat tube...I had no idea how good it would be. I Fire up the old Viewsonic 17" in the basement and can't believe I used it so long- it seems almost intolerable now.

I got a my brother a MAG 19 inch on sale for $150 at Best Buy a year ago. Pretty nice too... although now he wants an LCD... he rarely uses the thing anyway

I have the 955DF, I like it a lot. Not the best out there, since the refresh rate is limited at 60Hz at 1600 x 1200.

There's a 19 inch monitor somebody's buying in Hot Deals for around 240 shipped I think it is. Supposedly a really really nice monitor.The thread was a new one this morning, should be able to locate it pretty easy, may be worth your checking into.

something by LG would probably do.. they are not expensive, and always have a nice picture in my findings.
