Good CD-ROM to buy?

Im making a new system and already have a Plextor 12x10x32 in my other system and have a DVD for TV. So i'm just looking for a fast, good price CD-ROM. I'm not looking to spend too much money i'm on a budget. Please recomend something for me. Thanks

creative 52X...otherwise, if u're looking for fast cd-ripping audio extraction,
get a kenwood trueX or another plextor....however, the kenwoods are priced
considerably higher, but do perform a lot faster....i'd go with another plextor rom...

I would go for the Asus CD-Rom drives because they are quiet and they do the business! i have the Asus X8 DVD-Rom drive and the CD Writer and they both rock! They are reasonably priced and they rock as I have said!

My Creative 52x sucks, it only reads at 10x acourding to sisoft sandra.

Toshiba 48x's are solid and cost only about $35-$40

I have read several places that the Kenwood has problems reading CD-R's or CD-RW's. Sorry I don't accurately recall which in particular.

i have the kenwood 72x
it is mucho picky about cd-r media
when it does work it's great.
"fast as f*ck and quiet as hell" as i like to put it.

Great. I just installed a Kenwood 72X in my system. Guess I'd better find out exactly how picky it is about media. 🙁

Mitsubishi 50X or Acer (Mitsubishi makes Acer CD-ROM drives). They read practically anything.

Actually Pioneer makes Acer drives, which I recommend. I also recommend TEAC and Toshiba.

i'd stay away from creative, they're loud and crappy. i'd recomend an acer

Here in Australia the 50X Acers are the same as the 50X Mitsubishi Diamond Data drives. Whoever makes them, they are good drives, and work well. Reads at 26X average in Sandra.

i think creative drives are lousy. aopen and asus makes good drives. aopen for one has side loading mechanism for its drives too!
