Good cars under $20,000? What would you buy?

If I was going to get a new sub $20k car I'd get the Mazda 3. Then again, I'm not going to buy a new car until I can afford to get a new BMW.

Ford Mustang GT.

How much crack are you smoking?

What other rear-wheel drive V8 powered car can you get brand new under $20k?

Uh, the Mustang GT starts at over $24k.

Yup, look at my post under yours (we managed at the same time). I gave a link for him to look at too.

Honda seems to be trying to move the Civic, so I bet you can get a good price on one. Spend the difference to rice up your new ride 😛

(Oh--and thank you for this thread--I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one on ATOT who isn't driving a $30K+ car. Are you guys all rich or what??)

Mustang GT 2004 $19,503 from carsdirect.com. After taxes, a hair over $20k maybe. That MSRP does not include the $3000 rebate going on.

My friend just bought a 2004 Honda Civic EX 4-door with manual transmission for $17,100 including tax, license and title. The bad part is that it's a Civic, but the good part is that it's a Civic. 😉 Unparalleled resale value and reliability. I think anything else is a waste of money... but that's just IMHO.

Mazda 3s, 5-speed....hands down.

You should even be able to get a no-frills Mazda 6i for under $20k.

I almost bought a 3s but the rear legroom/trunk space of the 6i won out.

If I get the 3, I'll probably get the hatchback. I haven't driven one yet, but that might fix the trunk space issue 🙂

I would be unlikely to buy a new car, since they represent such a poor choice from bang for buck.

So, right now if I had $20k I'd get a 2003 maxima with few miles, fully loaded SE.
Cavilier, Sunfire & Ion
I'd rather walk 🙂
