Good cars under $20,000? What would you buy?

I'm thinking I might buy a brand new car this summer. Price maximum is about $20k, but of course, cheaper is always nice.

I've been looking at the Scion tC. The Mazda 3 looks kinda cool. There's also the Civic, Corrola, and Focus, all of which are good cars, but I don't find them particularly interesting.

What else is out there that I'm forgetting about?

stay away from the focus. i wouldnt buy one myself and i buy Ford most of the time.

I would go either an older accord, civic or Ford Taurus.
Heck you can snag a nearly new taurus for less then 20k. I have one now and i think its a good vehicle. But out of that or a accord? i would choose an accord.

MINI Cooper. Though Cali does have a huge markup. You can get a pretty well loaded one for $20k.

Neon SRT-4
Focus SVT
Mazda 3s
VW GTi 1.8t
Subaru Impreza (non-wrx)

If it was required to be new, those are what I would look at first.

I was thinking a Mazda 3 before I read that you were considering it. I saw that car at the dealership the other day, and I thought it was hot. It's either that or a used Accord ;)

With some dealing, you might be able to fit a 4 cylinder Mazda 6 in there.

If you want something slightly larger, you could get a Mazda 6. There is a $1500 rebate which brings it into that price range, even the "s" model if you don't get a lot of options. The revised Altima also looks good.

New SRT-4, 1.8t GTI, Spec-V, or a low-mileage used MY03 WRX.

Hmm I thought my aunt told me that Toyota and Hondas aren't marked up too high because of competition. I think she got a I-4 camry for about 15 - 16k.
