Good card for basic video editing

I understood that there is no need for a supercard for video edit and some graphics.[hardly any games and no OC]

I was thinking of the 8600GT with 512 mem. but noticed the 2600HD in the " Best of' of few meg's. and with all the new harvest of new cards...
What should I go for at this price range?

And any Idea for a MOBO for it [with 1394] ???

I think Ill be spending ~1200 on the new seting W/O the 22" screen .
