Good car for the snow?

I lease an '05 Saturn ION and it is the best car I've ever driven in the snow. The Traction Control feature works really well, plus you can turn it off for doing donuts 😀 You can pick up a basic model for less than 15k nowadays.

any 70's or 80's fullsize RWD V8 sedan is the ultimate winter battle tank. Big, heavy and safe. Nothing but a massive snow storm can stop these monsters. Throw on some studded snow tires and AWD owners will get pwned.

If he has a Mustang and is in need of a 2nd vehicle that is winter worthy, I'd just go with a 4WD pickup that's in decent shape.

You've already got a car. Why not just get something that has some function to it? It helps make those move in and outs of college dorms pretty easy.

I don't know what counts as "fancy", but women like pickup trucks 🙂

Look for a Tacoma or a recent model Frontier.

Screw dumping 15k into a new car... get him a good set of snow tires and a set of base model rims / steelies and he'll be good to go.

I've had my mustang out in the snow, and I havn't had any issues. Just throw a couple of sandbags in the trunk (over the axle).

I think in Utah you can even get studs, which pretty much makes it a no-brainer.

Subaru. Your bud could get a WRX for that price. That with some studless snows and home-boy is in business!

<--- Coming from a VW/Audi fanboy.

Edit- does it have to be a car though? He could find a plethora of 4x4 trucks that would do excellent and be fun!

Jeep Cherokee with the straight 6 4.0 engine. Indestructible, cheap parts, best 4x4 on the road, will tackle anything. Do not get one with a v8 or a jeep anything with a 4 banger or v8, the 6 4.0 is bullet proof, has a ton of power, and last forever. Anything else Chrysler makes is junk IMO.

The Jeep Cherokee, not grand, has been unchanged for years from the 80's to the late 90's so there are all kinds of parts for it to mod and do what ever he can think of to it, and cheaply I may add because of it.

if he has a car already why is he going to dump another 15k JUST on a snow beater? he should just pick up some cheap FWD winter beater for a couple grand and save the rest of the money

audis or subarus = /thread

as for audis... used S4's go for $10-25k depending on mileage(bi turbo V6). he'll get a fun car like his mustang, and nice AWD to boot 🙂

you can also go for a newer A4 quattro instead of an older S4 (S4 is the performance package, RS is ultra performance)
