Nope. The Wisconsin DNR got some money from the feds to operate the parks. They got a stop work order on the grant due to the Republican shut down of the federal government. The DNR chose to keep operating using state funds. Defiance not found. It isn't even clear from the Milwaukee Sentinel story that Walker was in any way involved in the decision.

Walker's statement, as reported by the Washington Times, concerning closing federal lands is silly. Walker has no authority to close federal lands whether he has the desire to or not. The National Parks in Wisconsin are closed. The National Forest offices in Wisconsin are closed. The National Forests are open except for developed campgrounds and recreation areas, same as in every other state with National Forests.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) is defying orders from Washington, D.C., to close down several state parks that receive federal funding.

Despite receiving a closure directive from the National Park Service, Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has decided instead that parks partly funded by the federal government would stay open to the public.

Spin it, lie about it all you want, the facts have a conservative bias in this particular case.

But he can still give a big middle finger to the feds, like he's done several times already.

That's a mature thing for a governor to be doing.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/nbc-police-remove-vietnam-war-veterans-memorial-wall_759267.html

Via William Jacobson, NBC's affiliate in Washington, D.C. reports that police ordered tourists and Vietnam war veterans who were visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall to leave the memorial at one point on Friday.

After one group of veterans went around the barricade, "the park ranger told them the wall was closed," NBC's Mark Seagraves reported. "Later another group of vets showed up and moved the barricades. At that point, the memorial filled with vets and tourists. That's when police came and moved everyone out."

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is a black granite outdoor wall on which the names of the 58,272 service members who died or were unaccounted for during the Vietnam war are inscribed.

It takes more manpower and costs the government more money to close down an outdoor wall than to let people walk past it and pay their respects.

The Obama administration has been very selective in devoting resources to shutting down memorials.

"mature" ? Fuck Obama and his bullshit administration.

What I think is awesome is that the republicans who have repeatedly slashed funding for national parks and all are suddenly trying to paint themselves as the protectors of them.

You aren't fooling anyone, you just happen to hate Obama more than you hate the parks and you're desperately flailing to try and stave off defeat by him.

Cutting some funding from National Parks is not the same thing as closing them off to the citizens out of spite. BTW some of those cuts were sequestration cuts that were proposed by Obama.

There is no funding for parks at the moment. The parks had to close because Congress hasn't done its job.
