good burn from arc welding today...(sunburnish type, ow)

Yea, well today i started arc welding in one of my classes. I didnt know we were making the switch from gas today so i was just wearing a short sleve shirt. DUMB DUMB DUMB. that arc welding stuff buuuuurns! Not only does the little bit of molten splatter usually land on the under side of my arm that was facing up but my left forearm has a good burn resembling a sunburn, and it HURRRTS.
My poor arm. Can anybody guess where my gloves stopped?

yea geze, i just noticed it recently when my shirt started rubbing it. :Q bright stuff. glad im still living at home otherwise i probably wouldnt be smart enough to have aloe yet. rarely use it.....2 years from now though................
edit - give ya an idea, its almost as red/pink as a pencil eraser. the camera sucks with my room light its baad .

WTF is wron with your instructor? He shouldn't have let you arc weld without the proper protective clothing.

Yeah, your instructor should have told you not to weld without a long-sleeved shirt on. Make sure it isn't a shirt you care about though as you will get little burns all over the front and the sleeves.

My instructor is kinda odd but hes fine otherwise he knows it wouldnt be too bad, its not but it burns a little and its only one day that it took to learn , my eyes are fine too, #10 lens in a welding helmet. He let us weld because we sorta wanted to really though i completely didnt think of the burning idea of it besides the splatter, which isnt bad just like little pricks, hell splattering oil from cooking frenchfries at home is worse than the embers. Only 3 of us were foolish to wear short sleve shirts to class though (and it happened to be that none of us knew we were switching over), now its obvious im taking in my crappiest thick long sleeve shirt i can find into class...Im not defending my instructor but if i didnt want to be there with a short sleve shirt after going through one rod and getting burned a bit I coulda left if i wanted to.

funny thing is, i usually have a long sleve shirt on anyway even for gas welding where its not really needed. Nothign really burns in gas unless it pops or you try to burn yourself with the torch It happens that today was the day we were getting into arc and i wore a short sleve. Heck, i wasnt even planning on going to class anyway, if a friend of mine had shown up for school we probably would have just gone for a drive or something in her new car skipping math (going to drop it) and "forget" that welding was only an hour later and two hours long. "woops"

I took a gas processes welding class YEARS ago and on the first day I was running the T.I.G. welder I was wearing one of those "T" shirts with all the little holes in them (They were popular back in the 70's or 80's).

I got home that night and took my shirt off and I was polka dotted ALL over my chest!

It looked REAL strange.........
