Good Budget Desktop

Hi,my brother and his wife are looking to buy a desktop pc. Right now all they have is a fairly old mid range laptop. They usually always buy top of the line stuff, but they just had a son so they are on a budget. They don't really game at all either. $600 including everything is a their target. Less would obviously be better. They aren't too computer so something with a decent warranty and good software bundle with everything ready to go would be good. A good printer, monitor (maybe flat panel) will do. I was thinking a P4, definately not a celeron and probably not an Athlon since they don't game. A CDRW/DVD would be nice. They don't want me to build one and don't want to buy used. I told them to check out the Dell Dimension 4700 refurbs, but does anybody else have any other suggestions?

Thanks, but I just went on the site and didn't find any amazing deals like they were talking about. The best deal I found was a Dimension 4700 with a 2.8 and 512 and 15 flat panel for 625 shipped which isn't too great. I just noticed it said deal id ead at the end.

I doubt you'll easily find a refurbed 4700 for $300 shipped. Since they aren't very computer literate, don't want to buy used, and don't want you to build one, you're basically stuck with a bottom of the line Dell. Others might suggest different brands from brick & mortar stores (ie. an eMachines from CompUSA or Gateway from Best Buy), but I'm not the least bit familiar with them so I can't comment on them.
This Dell is $645 with a $50 mail in rebate (I've only had good experiences with Dell rebates).

Right now Dell is offering free shipping on any Dimension over $599 - since their shipping is $100, you're probably going to want to get something over $599.

if you're going budget, get them an amd system anyway. they're way cheaper and cooler. that translates into a quieter PC. if all they do is e-mail and stuff like that, they wouldn't know if you gave them a t-bird, for chrissakes😛
seriously, though. AMD is cheaper, and just as fast or faster. take a look at a sempron system, it's a pretty good proc for the money.
hope that helped😉
cheers

Sorry, I'll change that. Why do you hate Dells. Also, how about a Dimension 3000 with 3.0/800 and 512 pc3200. Integrated Video and sound. 15" flat panel with combo DVD/CDRW for $527 shipped.

There is nothing wrong with the Celeron D and the Deleron would be the basis of a great budget system for them given their not gamers or power users. HP/Compaq has some deals going too.

No! I won't read this, and I think you're being extremly rude.
people like you should kicked out of here, and fast. The practical jokes forum need 'superb' brains such as yours. Just go there, and stop annoying!
