Well title says it all, a friend told me go for the animals, well i don't know, what woul you guys recommend i never used linux before, shoul i get a command reference?

looking to go beginner to advance, i know it's a long way, but i can walk it, Hey i like walking!🙂

should i get a command reference? any other book, someone told me about running linux by matt welsh or something

yeah, that's the one
O'reilly is the publisher.

I did my first linux instal with nothing but stuff i printed off the net and man pages.

Check out the free stuff first.

Spending money on anything for linux kinda defeats the purpose, imho.

Any prefered linx?

debian or slackware if you wanna learn linux
mandrake if you just wanna use it

It actualy took me months to get X up and running the way I wanted it, but that forced me to get real familiar with the console, which is a good thing.

I still use console aps for most things when i'm on that machine

I personally like Linux for Dummies, but I got it way after I learned linux so I just use it as a reference. It's very good for looking up a command or how to do something though.

I bought Linux in a Nutshell by O'Reilly. It's a quick (command)reference and it was 50% off sale. 🙂 I like it since I don't always want to stare at the screen. I recently networked my linux/win98 laptop to win2k machine. HOWTO was very helpful..!

I'm a newbie linux user too. Wasn't too hard to install linux. I use slackware. Now I don't know what to do with it.. besides web browsing 😕

I've gotten more from Linux in a Nutshell than any of my regular books (maybe my Apache Bible helped).

I've heard the unleashed by sams books are good and the wrox are good also on linux covering!
is it true that linux unleashed is for intermediate an wrox too??
