good books for babies?

calling all ATOT parents 😛

my sister is due to give birth in a month, and I thought it would be a nice surprise to buy her a bunch of books to read to the baby... any suggestions? I'm at a loss of where to even begin.

growing up, my mom would read Stephen King books to me as my bedtime stores... after It, I was afraid to walk over sewer grates until I was in my late teens (it worked out great living in NYC, lol) and I'd like my niece to avoid the same fate. the books my sister reads by choice are all such trash. haha.

Like thirtythree said, books for babies and kids are easy. They aren't as picky as adults are. Just go to the kids sections and grab what looks neat.

Goodnight Moon is a classic.

Some others:

Amazing Machines by Ant Parker are great books for toddlers
The Bear Snores On
Pat The Bunny
Moo, Baa, La La La

Mom started reading this to me when I was only a few months old, had it completely memorized before I could read. 😀

Yes!

You should get some Bernstein Bears books for when he gets a little older. I remember having a lot of fun with them. There was another book with a little bear in it that went to the moon as well. I can't remember what it's called but when he landed he took a piece of the moon and ate it off a plate (it was like moon flan). God damn that looked delicious when I was 5.

I've always bought the ones with fuzzy parts, textures, moving parts, etc. My daughter loves them, and I read them to her while she plays. It's a farm book and she's learned the names of everything and the sounds they make, etc. She enjoys the Veggietales books too.

2nd. I was obsessed with those as a toddler.

For when they're older, Richard Scarry and Dr Seuss books.
Berenstain Bears, also good.

For a young age, anything can keep them amused. As a baby, these are some things I thought were utterly hilarious to watch:

- Husking corn
- Shoveling dirt
- Planes crashing into the ground and exploding. (seriously)

Goodnight Moon... seriously. This is the preschool book to read. Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are, Dr. Seuss stuff, ohhh and my favorite "Love You Forever."
