Well I picked up on that dreamhost deal for $9.24/yr for the hosting + domain registration. It took about 4 hours and the webspace is up.

I basically want to use my site to just post some galleries and leave little notes and little things about whats going on my life. I guess its like a blog w/a gallery. I like the simple setup of Aharami's site (http://www.raktim.com) and was going for something that is kind of similar and simple like his.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know where to look, as well as a sample webpage if possible. I have wordpress as a oneclick install on dreamhost which I might use, but so far I don't like many of the themes that come with them, and I am unsure if I can use a gallery with it.

<--- newb to website stuff.

Thanks.

Here is the first place to look.

After that, consider PHPNuke or Post-Nuke for the site and either Gallery or Coopermine for the photo gallery.

"Coppermine" or "Gallery"

Gallery is less server intensive while imo Copper looks better.

 Not bad, not bad at all. I usually like to add, "on a cracker" after mine, to personalize it a bit.

I also say Wordpress and Coppermine or Gallery.

Yes you can make both your blog and gallery have the style but you need to learn both XHTML and CSS to fix them up.

just installed Coppermine and used the XP Pulish tool for uploading directly from Windows. Very cool :)

the Windows uploading wizard allows you to resize before uploading and selecting albums to upload them too. i wish it would let you put comments, titles, and descriptions, but i guess you can't have everything :p

btw, does anyone know if Coppermine has a feature that will only allow registered users browse the galleries?

wordpress + flickr

i used to fool around with my own gallery software, but flickr is just a better way to go for me. you have the whole network thing going, plus unlimited storage (with pro account, which is only 25 a year), tagging, etc etc etc
