Good birth day present for a friend (girl)

So in two weeks my friend (a girl) that I've known for...oh say 4 years almost , has her bday coming up. I've not hung out with her that much, but I'm going with her and some of her friends to six flags in two weeks and I feel compelled to buying her a gift as I'm sure her other friends will and it'll be awkward for me if I didn't especially since I've known her for 4 years.

I rarely buy any presents for girl buddies, (only gfs, but because this is for a friend i rather it not be too personal).

She loves books, so I was thinking about buying her a book, but I dont know what she've read and what she plans to read. Again I dont want the gift to be too personal nor too expensive. I can tell you right now that I rather not buy her something she has to wear (as she might feel forced to wear it when we hang out).

I'd appreciate any tips with the informatin provided. Let me know if you need more information about the friend.

Oh yeah I'd like to hear suggestions on some gift that you can laugh at too (in a cute kind of way). But it has to be something you can buy, I dont have time to make the gift myself 😛

buy her some tickets to a concert of a band she likes, or movie tickets, or something.

or you can make her something.

mm i'm very busy and can't make her anything, plus i suck at making things. gift card is somewhat less personal i rather get her something that's amusing but a bit original. i could treat her for a dinner and a movie i suppose. her bday is 2 days before we go to six flags, but as for concert....blah that's somewhat out of my price range, i dont want it to be too expensive as i've only hung out with her a few times during these 4 years that we've known each other.

hhaha just looked at that book buzzsaw, i'm gonna have to look into it a bit more to make sure she knows it's a joke and not that i actually think she might be interested in that book.

more advise are welcomed. and i forgot to say thanks in advance in my op

right....i was thinking if i should buy her sex toys as a joke....but i think that's somewhat out of line..her parents might find it....or she might have to throw it away just so her parents would never find it.....and that'd be quite a waste of money if she doesnt keep it 🙂

Not a bad idea if she is into music. If that is too expensive, then do something else.

Do you know anything about what she is interested in? Because that is important when buying a book.

I plan to find out what kind of books she's into but my guess is anything. She loves to read, period. But i'm sure she loves a specific genre and a specific author. Problem is that if she loves some author, chances are she's already read the book. As for music, I could buy her a CD, but the only thing I know about her music taste is that she likes rock/alternative, dunno about any specific band or singer though.

I'm up for amusing gifts that are not too serious and that you could laugh at (i.e. that book that buzzsaw suggested).

she's not a smoker and no i'm not going to get her a $500 GC or any GC for that matter. I want it to look like I put some thoughts into it even though I'm getting the ideas from you guys 🙂

Gift card to Border's FTW.

Ok that might be a good idea after all....i failed to see that you said to Borders...i read Gift card and skipped the rest. That'll be my last option but I want to try and stay away from GC's in general.

Find her favorite flower/fragrance and get her a body wash kit from BB&B. Or a gift certificate to said place Or to some stationary store that sells girly stationary. Women love that sort of stuff and use it often.

Good idea... Hang out with everyone and ask one of her friends or just find out what she is interested in. A book is a good idea if she loves reading. My friends buy me books all the time for presents and I love the books.

So if somebody gave you a $25 GC to borders would you see it as personal as the person buying you an actual book? Which one would you prefer? I would've thought the latter, but I dont know what books she has or hasnt read, and if I ask she might think that's what I'll buy her....in fact she doesnt know I'm buying her something (AFAIK unless she deliberately told me it's her bday to make sure i got her something by then hehe).

And I just went to border's gc homepage and their "Birthday GC" are sold out.....errrrrr how can GC's be sold out?? There's a bunch of categories...one that's regular GC....i guess i could get her that instead....but it would've been nicer if the card implied it was for a birthday occassion which the Bday GC does...

so if somebody is book savvy, i'd appreciate a good book suggestion something relatively new or very old and somewhat classic (my guess is that would be the only books she haven't read as of yet). i'm really thinking the book thing is the way to go but i am no book worm (in fact i'd rather watch a movie adaptation before reading...that's how much i hate reading).

get her some upright, clip, picture holders. i'm not sure what the proper name for them is, but basically, they have a heavy base, a stiff wire sticking up, and a clip on the end for her to clip a picture to. they have them at gift store places and i've seen them around the checkout area of bookstores. they shouldn't be too expensive either.
