I have been intending to get into a distributed computing project over the last few months and now that my PC is done, I am finally ready.

But I have no clue on which project is a good fit, and how to join that project. My last experience with BOINC was 10 years ago with protein folding projects. I am interested in practical applications like health, agriculture, maybe even weather/climate. No disrespect meant for projects of a more esoteric nature.

What do you guys recommend as a first project?

CPU = i5-4670K 3.4 Ghz
GPU = Radeon 7870 1050 Mhz

If you're not doing BOINC right now, would you be open to a different platform? We're doing a TeAm Folding@Home race right now, and both your CPU and GPU could do good work on it. Our team number is 198.

If you want to stick with BOINC, World Community Grid is doing several nice projects for your CPU. I can't think of any current BOINC projects for your GPU that aren't "esoteric".

About your specific requests, I don't know of a current agriculture-focused project. There is ClimatePrediction.net, but it has significant RAM requirements and takes a long time to complete each work unit.

P.S. If you change your mind about "esoteric" projects, see my sig. ;)

If you're interesting in joining the Folding@home race, team Thinkers could use your hardware. :D
