Could someone please tell me what is the best backup image software.
I use Ghost 2003 in the past and loved it but it's take too long to back up and recovery so I bought acronis 9. It was working good for awhile now everytime I do the recovery I would get corrupted image. It was such a waste of time. I have to go back and recover with my good old Ghost 2003 image.
I know Acronis came out with Version 10. I was wondering if it's any good or should I get Ghost 10 instead. I want something easy and reliable like Ghost 2003 and be able to backup to DVD media.

Thanks

Nickyct,

I have the same problem with Acronis True Image 9 when I backup through Windows. I keep getting corrupted images (at least, that's what it tells me). I've found that using the recovery CD that it creates, booting from the CD and backing up from that is the way to go. The operating system it uses is able to recognize USB drives and I believe networked computers.

I've tried eliminating all the system processes in Windows, but something seems to conflict with Acronis's backup procedure. I know it's kind of a pain not being able to backup through Windows, but it's worth a shot if you don't want to spend more money on a program that will do the same thing.

I was also using Acronis 9 and for the first tiem came up with a corrupted image twice, it cost me a re-install.

The safest way is to run acronis of the bootable cd or

image under windows but verify the image after. A corrupted image will not verify. It must be some patch Microsoft installed recently since I did not have this problem in the past. I never verified an image in the past but started doing so after this experience.

I had made a bootable CD and never thought of using it.
Well, it's too late now.
I guess nobody like Ghost 10 huh? :)
But Ghost 2003 is the most reliable backup that I've used though. When all else failed,
I can always back it up with Ghost 2003. But I like acronis interface.
I guess I'll go with acronis 10 then. But I've just heard so much about corrupted files with acronis that kind of turn me off about it.

Use what you are comfortable with. I have used Acronis since version 2, now on 10. I have never had a problem with anything corrupted - probably because I never use it in Windows. I always used the bootable CD (full program) and back up by cloning. I find that more efficient because no restoration is needed. All my hard drives are duplicated and immediately useable.
