Good ATI card for single-gpu 1920 x 1200 gaming?

I am looking into a fairly in-expensive single card solution to last me until maybe R600 or R680. I can get an Asus X1950 Pro for 200 CAD -- which I think is a mighty fine deal. I can also get a Sapphire X1950 XT for 300 CAD (both before taxes). I was hoping that it could handle the Syncmaster 244T's native res (1920 x 1200) in games decently with some eye candy.. The Anandtech launch article says it can pull like 40-50 FPS in BF2 w/ 4x AA at 1920 x 1200 on a Core 2 Xtreme 2.93/2 GB PC2-6400 4-4-4-12/BadAxe 1 system...

I'm going to have:

3.6 GHz + OC'ed E6600
2 GB OCZ PC2-6400 4-4-4-12
RD600
+
X1950 Pro?

Basically, equal to or better than the test bed used on that X1950 launch review/article.

I'd like it to be an ATI card as my computer is going to be ATI chipset based, etc.
The only bench I didn't like was Oblivion but IMO Anand's settings are really high anyways. BF2142 is the same engine as BF2 + a few tweaks and maybe some higher poly models -- so I am hoping that all will be well there. Thoughts?

The X1950XT is going to be a much better choice ... at that resolution you need all the horsepower you can get, especially in games like Oblivion.

I recommend the X1950XT 256MB... it performance is about the same as X1950XTX but doesn't have the extra 256MB of ram.

Hmm.. but that extra 100$ for me is it really worth it..? 200$ ASUS X1950 Pro vs. 300$ Sapphire X1950 XT. Sure the XT has 25% more shader/pixel power and higher clocks, but it also has the dual-slot (noisy) cooler.

Yarr 'tis a hard decision :(.

Quite frankly, at that high of resolution, wouldn't the extra ram on the video card be worth it?

And you know, it doesn't have to be ATI. You can mix it up a little ;)

The X1950XT is $250 and but if you did go with a X1950pro then buy this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121049 because its has all 16 pipeline (48shader) unlocked or get this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121031

I'm gonna have to agree.
1900x1200 is what the 8800 series was made for.
Go ahead, just splurge on the 8800 card you've always wanted. We won't tell ;)

Don't listen to them... save the money and buy a X1950pro... it will run almost every game smooth at 1920x1200. May just have to use 4xAA instead of 8xAA or high setting instead of highest.

I don't think so. Do ATI cards even do 8xAA? I thought 6x was max.
Look at some of the frames that some of the games get in the rage3d article that BFG10k linked to.

There good with AA/AF, turn on 4xAA/16xAF, at that res the framerates take a dive.

I'll tell you one thing for sure, @ 1920x1200 my 8800GTX is approx twice as fast as my X1900XTX was at the same resolution with much better image quality, however thats hardly a fair comparision to make because the GTX costs a LOT more money.

To the OP, again I suggest that if you can afford it, you go for the X1950XT ... yes it'll be a little louder, but you'll be happier with it in the long run.

it cost $30 more due to hdcp IMHO.
