Good apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic books?

I've read a good deal of them (ex. Alas, Babylon; lots of zombie books; etc.). Looking for some more good ones, preferably written in the past 10 years, so they don't feel dated.
 
Grab a collection of Phillip K Dick's short stories. A lot of those are post apocalyptic, with sci fi flare. But they were written in the 60's I think.
 
Illium and its sequel, Olympos by Dan Simmons. It's set at an undetermined point in the future, but I'd guess about somewhere between 2500 and 3000 AD. The central mystery here in these books is to figure out what the hell happened to human civilization. It's interesting because none of the characters involved seem to know for sure...

On the Beach, A+++ would read again
The Road (father and son traveling down a road in a hallowed out country filled with cannibals)
Day by Day Armageddon (without a doubt, the best zombie book I've ever read... keep waiting for the author to GTFO of Iraq so he can write a sequel)
 
A few of the better ones I've read that haven't been listed all ready.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon is up there with The Stand

Autumn Series by David Moody Zombie series and looks like its getting made into a movie. Was available for free download for a long time so you should be able to find 😉 a copy.

Dies the Fire by S M Stirling All modern crap combustion, electricy, etc just quits working for some unknown reason and every body goes apeshit. These started off ok and I'll probably finish them but its drawn out way more then it needs to be.

Wolf and Iron by Gordon Dickson This one takes place awhile after the collapse of the modern world. Just some dude traveling around with a wolf.

Dark Advent by Brian Hodge End by plague. Can't remember this one at all but I liked it.

The Taking by Dean Koontz

I am Legend by Richard Masterton duh

Lucifer's Hammer by Nevil and Pournelle Comet hits the planet and fun is had all around. Great book.

Dying to Live by Kim Paffernroth Just read this one. Another zombie book and as far as zombie books go it was alright.

Mister Touch by Malcolm Bosse Another virus one thats pretty decent.
 
Issac Asimov - Nightfall

Takes place on a fictional planet (that has no night), and it's one of his earlier works, but it's not dated at all. Awesome stuff.
 
Lucifer's Hammer. Best EOTW book I've read.

I like The Stand but it has a supernatural bent to it while Lucerfer's Hammer is pure sci-fi.

Maybe I just missed something......

I HATED Lucifer's Hammer, I read it based on recommendations from this forum. The book is basically, blah blah blah. Big explosions, blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah. The characters were shallow. I didn't feel any empathy for any of the characters and I was bored most of the story.

I just don't get the fascination with Lucifer's Hammer. Now The Road is a GREAT book but honestly VERY VERY depressing.

I read it just last weekend. Great book, but I think about half of it went over my head. 🙁
