good alternative to Photoshop CS2?

Yeah. If you absolutely *need* Photoshop, you're probably doing it professionally and should be able to afford investing in purchasing it at full price or with an educational discount.

I'm happy with GIMP, though I've used Photoshop in the past (trial and...otherwise :eek:) and would prefer to own and use that.

Make sure you get all the plugins off the forums, there are over 100.
Also just noticed it runs in native 64 bit mode.
