I bought a Logitech S 510 Wireless Desktop because I love the keyboard. I read that the mouse sucked, but I thought I'd give it a try. Well it really does suck. It is uncomfortable to my hand, and does not track well on my desk surface (light colored woodgrain). I use a piece of white paper under it right now, and that works, but it is not a permanent solution.
I want to buy a good wireless mouse. This is my home computer. I surf, do office tasks, do minimal photo editing, and play the occasional game (RPGs). I do not want to use a mouse pad. I do not want a Microsoft mouse since they do not have the detents on the mouse wheel (the MS wheel doesn't 'click' as you scroll it).
At first I was thinking that I'd just buy a G7, but I have read that it may have the same tracking problem as the mouse I have now.
This seems stupid to me. My previous mouse, which was optical, and came with Logitech's budget wireless desktop a few years ago (came free with a 17" Acer LCD that I bought from CompUSA, would have cost $50, I believe), worked fine. It wasn't the most comfortable, but it tracked perfectly for me. It used the bright red LED. The new one that came with the S 510 has something written on the bottom about using 'invisible optical technology', which must be industry jargon for crap.
I went to BestBuy the other day to put my hand on all of their mice on display. The G5 seemed to be the most comfortable. The Razor was alright too, but I don't think they have a wireless version. The MX Revolution was not comfortable to me. The LX7 was ok, but felt cheap. The MX518 was also ok, but the G5 felt better. They did not have a G7 to play with.
I guess I'm looking at the LX7, the MX610, or the G7. Anybody have any experience using these on a light colored woodgrain desk without a mouse pad? The desk material is similar to this Desk. Should I look at any other brands? Are we back to the point where a mouse pad is necessary? I went optical to get away from mouse pads! Well that, and having to periodically clean the ball.
Thanks in advance!
