kinda hooked on it since I started this week but I'm still getting my ass kicked by my friends. Need to improve quickly because I'm loosing $1 bills like I was at a strip joint.

If you're serious about getting better, use FICS (free) or ICC (pay). You can search for free clients using google. I personally used to play on FICS, and they have players of ALL skill level. Their ratings are meant to generally reflect your skill level vs. an official world rating, from lowly 700 all the way up to computers who play at 2500+ strength (for reference, the top human player in the world is usually rated ~2800). They also have fun variants to play. I myself am a master of the Suicide variant. (yes it's for real). FICS' website can be found here. Good luck!
