Good 9mm manufacturers?

I'm looking into getting a gun for purely target practice reasons and perhaps a "just in case" weapon for home. Anyone recommend any good manufacturers for 9mm handguns? I'm in the $300-500 range.... so Glock and many others are out. Ruger, Smith and Wesson, etc?

Thanks

I bought a Ruger P89 for my first. Generally I have been very happy with it. 5000 rounds later have yet to have a malfunction.

I am fond of using the Beretta 92 line. I carry mine (Beretta 92 Brig. Border Marshall limited edition) for concealed carry and everything. Comfortable, hammer drop safety, rotating firing pin block, chamber loaded indicator, trijicon sights, etc. It has it all.

🙂 My first pistol was an Springfield Amory XD 9mm. It is awesome! Check out AR15.com for their forums if you want to see more about firearms and reviews. But in my opinion, the XD is a sweet gun.

Not that I'm a firearms expert or anything, but I grew up shooting various models 45cal, .357 mag, .44mag, 22cal, etc.

I've never heard of CZ, can someone fill me in on who they are?

I've had my ruger P87 since 1991. never had a malfunction. Of course, I clean it after every outing and every 3 months when it's not in use.

Firearms maker in the Czech Republic.

I have heard good things about them. Never fired one though.

Tarus aint so bad

Just from what I've seen, Tarus makes a fine revolver, but their autos leave a bit to be desired.

You can get a Glock 9mm for under $500.

CZ makes quality stuff at great prices, easily better than Ruger IMO.

I shot a Tarus 9mm, in fact, my dad owns one. I have yet to have a problem with it, in fact, it was a pleasure to shoot. But thats just my experience, take it for what thats worth.

But I do agree, Glock or Sig will probably be your best bet.

Just got a Walther p99qa for my wife, and its a great gun. I like its action, and its pretty accurate for target. Give it a look. It was ~$550 new, but you could find a nice used one for $400.

walther's are a good choice too.

Go to the shop and check out CZ, Glock, and Walther. Pick whichever feels best

I've fired several Rugers, I'm never going to own one. My Dad calls them K-Mart guns...

Look at a Smith, Springfield or even the Beretta. Go to a range that will let you shoot guns, and shoot everything in the case.
