Good 6200 card to unlock and overclock

Hi, my local Frys has this 6200 card for sale at $130. Just wonder if it's a good card for unlocking the extra pipes and overclocking? If so, for this particular card what driver should I use to unlock and overclock? Thanks for all the help!

From what I've heard, the Leadtechs are the best that unlock. You might be able to get this card going, but PNY cards aren't that great to begin with IMHO. The Leadtech card on NewEgg for $125.50 shipped to your door. That, IMHO, is a better option.

Thanks! Just I got some Frys credits and I would like to apply on buying the card so wonder if this PNY version would work as well as the Leadtek.

Can someone tell me their experience of unlocking and overclocking the card and if for the PNY card, should I do the same to unlock and overclock? Thanks

As I said, I don't know if it will, as I personally don't think PNYs are as good as Leadtech cards, but thats just me.

Anyway, it MAY unlock fine, but it is, just like any other card, a gamble. Maybe it'll work great, and everything will be OK, then again, maybe you'll ruin your card. And yes, you would go through the same procedure as unlocking the Leadtech, by using RivaTuner.

sorry for all the questions! I guess I will pick up the card at my local Frys and give it a try with the RivaTuner. Is the RivaTuner software pretty straight forward for unlocking, will it also help me overclock the card also? Just wonder if the on card cooling is good enough for unlocking w/o overclock? Thanks again for all the help. Will go get the card now, thanks!

Thanks for your pointed Fmound but I don't have a PCI-Express slot and I think that happens to most people who wanted to unlocked the 6200. I really wouldn't like to go the extra step if I can use the PCI Express card =)

I was just at fry's and they want $160 for theirs. Was this a sale and were are you located?

oh the promotion ends on Tuseday 3/15 and I am located at the SF Bay Area. If the card is on sale, it should be 149.99 plus a $20 rebate!

is eVGA a good brand Actaeon? Cuz I can get the eVGA card with 256mb (but slower memory speed) for $6 more! What do you think? Thanks!

I'd rather have the eVGA, simply because they aren't a crappy company like PNY.

IMO, they are very shady, espically regarding their past "lifetime warranty". Their "lifetime" warrant only applies to the life cycle of the product. Meaning, if they stop making that product in 2 months, you're out of a warranty. Of course, this is all written in small fine print, while "Lifetime" is bolded and in pretty letters. I believe they discontinued this Lifetime warranty, and only 1 year warranties are given now. However, dispite their change in policy, I would never support a shady company that had these crappy policies to begin with. It is deception of its customers, and is not right.

EVGA currently has a 1 + 1 warranty. Meaning, it comes standard with 1 year, and for registering the product, that extends it another year. 2 years isn't bad. However, I'm not sure which card you're talking about. If it is the same 6200, I would probally get the eVGA, simply because it is not a PNY 😉.

What is your budget,? Perhaps we can help you find something online that'll match your requirements and budget that your local Frys does not have.

Thanks Actaeon, cuz I have Amazon credits so I would like to buy from Amazon and they are tax free for me too! I did a search at Amazon for "6200 AGP" and only found the PNY and eVGA cards! However, the eVGA card has 256mb and based on comments from members in this forum that the card may have slower memory and may not be able to unlock for 8 pipes! So I don't know if I should get the eVGA instead!

get the eVGA 256 off amazon. It'll probably unlock anyway, otherwise ebay it. The ram might be 4.0 or slightly higher ns, not really going to lose too much, maybe a 20 mhz OC on the ram.

Otherwise, take the leadtek on newegg and use the funds to buy something else on amazon.

I'll let you know how mine goes, my leadtek is sitting at my house and i get back on friday, i'll do benches and post late friday night.

EDIT: otherwise, look for a 9700 or 9800 pro

actually I wonder if PNY is really that bad. Cuz many of the retail local store sells PNY but now every store sells eVGA or Leadtek. Is it that most members here not satisfy with their RMA policy only or the actually quality of the product?
