Good 360 headset?

The wired headset I got with my 360 is dying, it takes forever to get it to connect and I figure it'll croak right about the time FM3 and MW2 come out. Might as well replace them.

I hear that any cell phone wired headset will work, but are they better than the 360 mics? I'm not sure what to get? I've tried the wireless mic and it was nothing but trouble (tons of connectivity issues).

I've heard the new 360 wired mic with the mute switch on the middle of the cord as opposed to on the connector isn't as nice.

What are some options?

I haven't had any trouble with the new style aside from the fact that it does not work well with the 360 wireless wheel (tons of static).

Have you considered the official wireless headset? I've heard it's the best both quality and functionality-wise.

This. The official wireless headset works well and is very clear. Well worth the money over the wired headset.

I'm still using my original wired official 360 headset, but I would recommend maybe doing a search on Amazon for "xbox 360 headset" and consider the ones that have a lot of good reviews.

I bought a wireless one and didn't care for it much. People couldn't seem to hear me very well, and it hurt my ear after like 10 minutes. Then, my dog ended up chewing on it, so I got 2 of the old style wired ones, and they are just fine to me. I hate the new style wired ones, too easy to break the wire where it plugs in.

Edited my OP...I tried the wireless mic and hated it. Tons of connectivity issues, it'd randomly shut off for a few seconds and then back on, etc.

Any of the turtle beach or an Astro Gaming headset. They are pretty steep in price but the best xbox headset you will ever one and last one you will need.

I've been using the Turtle Beach x31 headset for about a month now. I really like them a lot. The battery life is a little short, but I use rechargeable batteries so its not that big of a deal.

Cheaper = better. This is only for game chat, won't be getting game audio through it. Astros are waaaaaay overkill.

I just bought one as well.

I love the headset, but there's two things I would like seen changed in the next revision (if there will be one):

Removable Mic - gets in the way sometimes when you fold it up. Not that big of a deal, but I'm kinda spoiled by my pc headset where the mic boom folds inside.

Audible warning that the batteries are about to die - One of two things will happen when your batteries die. You'll lose sound randomly and you know it's time to change batteries, or you'll get this really loud distorted sound (which is definitely annoying) and the headset will shut off.

Overall, I'd recommend it. It's $99, but it's a good price for wireless audio. I love the fact that I can move around the room and it sounds crystal clear. Very good audio quality for a wireless headset.

I agree. I love my Turtle Beach x31. It is very comfortable and it sounds great. Totally worth the money.

Saw that earlier. It's a cheap knockoff.

I like the original style headsets the best (with the controls on the plug instead of inline).

I also have the mid range Turtle Beach (Stereo Wireless IR model) which have great sound quality for both voice and game, but I play with people in the room a lot and that can get annoying if you try to hold a conversation with people locally at the same time you're talking on XBL.

Found a local shop that sold original style headsets brand new, bought two of 'em.
