You think 45 bucks once a week is bad? I fill up twice a week at about 40 bucks each...

If you looking to save cash that doesn't seem like a very good way to go about it. A VW TD on the other hand only took around 50k miles to make up the difference over a gas version.
I wonder where they pulled those numbers from. The Prius is supposed to be the same size as a Camry and it costs just a very little bit more. I would definitely look at the Prius but I have a thing for Toyotas. :)

Prius is good if you are into that, so is the Mazda 6. Sure you won't try a CPO of a nicer car?

LOL! So true. You really have to want to be laughed at to drive that thing...let alone buy one. I'd rather set my head on fire and put it out with a sledgehammer than even be caught riding in one.

I bought mine "off the lot" though technically I bought it before it even arrived. The person who had purchased it backed out of the deal and I happened to sneak in there. :D In Cali the wait is obscene, as is the markup. Most other places in the country it is easy to get one, especially on the east coast.

I'd sell all bodily fluids that I could for a month or two and round up another $1k and get an Acura TSX for 26k.

I was off just a tad on my number for the hybrid ;). It was talking about the civic hybrid taking 167k miles to pay off the difference over a regular gas civic.

Difference between 60mpg Prius and 14mpg Tundra >>>>>> Difference between hybrid civic and regular civic.

Also, diesel engines don't meet CA emissions specs it seems.

UPDATE: Test drove a Prius yesterday. There's an 8 month waiting list here in CA, for starters. While the Prius certainly had the "gadget factor" going for it, driving it wasn't as nice as I anticipated. It has decent power and average ride, but on the whole I was VERY unimpressed. Build quality just seemed "cheap." My Tundra cost about as much when it was purchased but feels a whole lot sturdier (it's a truck, duh) but overall seemed like I got more for the money.

That being said, Prius is now OUT. I'll take a look at the Acura TSX.

the prius is barely mid-sized, the camry is much larger, almost full sized
