I know my choices are limited because my laptop doesn't have front and rear audio outputs, so I'm wondering if there's a good two speaker solution out there? Doesn' thave to be portable.

Thanks,
Paul

Doesn't have to be new either.

anything less than $150ish. Preferably cheaper than that, because it's possible to get used Z560s for less than 150.

<< The Logitech Z-340's look pretty good, and are only like $46 shipped from Newegg >>

I have a pair of these and I'm very impressed with them.
I couldn't find anything that came close to them until you jumped up to the Klipsch Promedia's.

The Z560s are "rated" at 400 Watts? That's pretty funny. Maybe with a pure 1000 Hz sine wave :Q Someone needs to start regulating this crap!

Anyway...IMO the most underrated (unknown?) speakers are the Yamaha YST-MS50s. $106 shipped from Newegg in your choice of black or white :D

I've been pleased with my Altec Lansing ATP-3's.. they run ~$75 or so. They sound real nice, IMHO. You can find em at Best Buy usually for a pretty decent price.

SuperGroove, the Altec Lansing ATP-3's are a great choice for a 2.1 setup. If you have a Staples B&M store near you, find the best price online and then go to the store and have them apply the 110% price match policy :)

Hey SuperGroove,

How's that combo CDRW drive working out?! So far mine's been working like a champ on my IBM T21!

Another vote from me on Altec; however I have the Altec Lansiing 621's and feel that they're every bit as good as the Logitech Z560's or the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's sound wise. I had almost bought the Klipsch's until I heard these Altec 621's (they seemed to sound cleaner/crisper in the mids and highs)...I'd suggest you go listen to them, they sound very good (for music they ROCK! I don't play too many games so I can't vouch for them on that aspect). They would look very nice along side your IBM T23!!

I paid around $140.00 for them at a local computer shop but you should be able to find them on the internet cheaper...

just because u have a laptop doesn't mean u're limited to 2.1 audio...

this is the only creative product i recommend EXTIGY

and another vote for the altec lansing 621s for high-end or ATP3s for mid-end speakers

The Combo drive works fine. Initially it wouldn't read certain discs, but for some reason now all media works without a hitch *crosses fingers*. I've burned upwards of 20 discs, I think I'm underestimating, but it still works great. next time I think I'll just buy a notebook with all the features that I want, instead of cheapskating my way through and adding foreign parts later:p

The 621s are actually what I think I'm leaning towards! I haven't gotten the chance to listen to them though. Will do!

nortexoid,

That r0x0rs! I wonder where 4.1s would actually go in my dorm room. Meh, 4.1 is overkill for a laptop:D

:)as long as sound quality is concerned, Klipsch is the No.1 choice, but Altec Lansing's ATP3 is 95% close to that and only costs half(MAYBE even less) the price...

I've been using the YST-MS50(B)'s for about a year and a half now. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality 2.1 setup.

I bought a set of Monsoon speakers back in December and have been impressed with them. The model I have can be bought for $99 at CompUSA or ~$75 online.
