In my experience XP with SP1 is at least as stable as 2K - I've had no problems either in a networking context or as a home user. As long as you install solid WHQL drivers, that is...

Went from 2k to XP... win2k maybe SLIGHTLY more stable, but XP makes life much easier, especially when it comes to plug and play.

I find xp to be superior to 2k pro. Win 2k doesn't even have msconfig. As far as bloating goes, at least windows comes on 1 cd unlike most linux distros (granted you get about a zillion more programs with linux, but I gotta complain about something:)).

Windows 2000 has a memory management problem, hence the BSOD.

I'm not absolutly sure what the prblem is, but I think it has something to do with 2k not deleting the files out of the pagefile/memory causing overflows.

I know XP corrected this problem. If you want a more precise answer I can talk to my dept head, he's the one who told me about it.

And there are win 98 installations smaller than 10 MB. What's your point?
