So you would be best off to pick up an ata100 160gb drive to ghost the array with. I'm sure someone on here could explain how.

could you do two separate raid 0 setups or two drives each, which in turn are hooked up via raid 1?
. Raptor
. RAID 0 <
. / Raptor
RAID 1 <
. \ Raptor
. RAID 0 <
. Raptor
that would give him the speed of raptor raid 0 with the reliability of raid 1?
(i apologize, i really just wanted to draw the picture).

Why do Raid 0+1? Raid 1 is mirroring. In RAID 0+1 the two RAID 0 arrays are mirriored....

yeah, you have the idea but it was a hypothetical thing. like, if you are going to buy 4 raptors anyway, why not ___________?

Depending on his budget Id suggest a 5 drive RAID 5 array with a 3ware 8 port SATA controller. Or RAID 0 with 4 drives and a backup drive to ghost the array.

How would you ghost the 4-drive array? Im not familiar with this.
