goto your doctor and they'll refer you to a specialist based on their observations.

You could enlist....I'm SURE the military Dr.s would check you out, and for FREE. (sorta, unless they TAKE you)

dood, there is no shame in getting checked for a mental disorder. i am obsessive compulsive and a bit of general anxiety disorder. there is NOTHING wrong. i, like you, had an ex girlfriend and i had a hard time getting over her. only now i realize that it was because of OCD. OCD is and can be given to you from your mother. whatever thats called, i dont know. anyways, first things first, there are two proven ways to help you get better/feel better. there is no cure for ocd. but there is treatment in which you can feel like yourself again and not woryr about so much stuff.

1. cognitive behavioral therapy -- proven to help combat ocd.

2. any ssri anti deprssant. im currently on 50mg zoloft daily and it works.

3. but most important, find a therapist who specializes in OCD.

you can do this by visiting www.ocfoundation.org and requesting a packet of info and doctors who work in your area.

OCD is nothing to be ashamed of, but without treatment it can get worse and it will suck, big time.

hope this helps.

stonecold3169, there's nothing to feel awkward about. It's great that you recognize these stresses and want to find out how to deal with them effectively. There may be a counseling center (confidential) at your school, or you can check with a health care provider for a referral to an appropriate person or organization. If it's too awkward to do this publically or it would be hard to do this without your dad finding out, look around in your area and see if there are any free or low cost services provided, too. :) You might also reevaluate your dad's potential response -- some people really do get unnecessarily weirded out by things like this, and if it's your parent that can be difficult. Do remember though that what you're experiencing is normal and that there is no reason to feel ashamed. Good luck.

edit: remember, too, that for most people young adulthood is incredibly stressful and trying (even for people who don't seem phased). While your situation now feels overwhelming, you WILL move on to a more stable situation in time. It's still a good idea to receive whatever support you can to understand and mitigate these stresses, though :)

how do I go about possibly getting checked for a mental disorder?
Have you asked your neighborhood plumber or automechanic?

For crying out loud, what do you mean 'how do I get checked'? Maybe a doctor...or something?

Hi stonecold, winr here.
If you realize you have a problem then you are not crazy.
A lot of people deny they have problem and dont try to change or seek help.
You would be surprised how many people have problems and never speak out.
I have read in many books that parents with problems will pass it on to their kids.
Even if it is not a chemical imbalance or something like that it might be a learned habit that can be unlearned.
I believe by speaking up you are on your way to happier times.
Also, I tried to please my parents for a long time and it always left me frustrated.
It is your life, live it how you decide.
We are behind you.

:)
