I was able to make it through the book, but I agree it was pretty bad.

Same, dull ending. I just could not care for a single character. No idea how that book became such a commercial success, it was incredibly 'meh'. Although it's all over the bookstores now, as are her other books.

Saw it last night. I hadn't read the book but my girlfriend has. I thought the movie was OK, she thought the movie left out way too many things which is kind of to be expected.
She thought Affleck was way too likable, that they didn't treat the affair with the student as well, that Harris wasn't creepy enough, among other things. I don't always mind a lack of resolution in a story, but this one bothered me for some reason.

Same here. Thought the movie was okay though, I had no major gripes.

I think the point is, there is no major "resolution" like in a normal good guy v bad guy, good guy wins type of story. People who think the story is unresolved were the ones rooting for BA's character and wanted him to go ape shit on the bitch for what she did. However, by the very end, he is essentially trapped. Additionally, deep down, he probably does love her and want to be with her. Neither of them turned out to be the people the other actually wanted, but now that they are under the scope for the rest of their lives, maybe they can finally pretend again.

I am going to see this sometimes this weekend. Seems like it is pretty good, and with nothing great really being out, it is either this or Left Behind. And, surely, anything with Nick Cage isn't worth the price of admission.

Gone Girl is the most far-fetched piece of crap I have ever seen. It is one of the biggest scam movies ever perpetrated on the public! That said, David Fincher is one of my favorite directors. I have seen all of his movies and watched them many times, always discovering something new to appreciate. I will never watch this one again. Fine acting, great background music by Trent Reznor, good photography, but a story that is so ridiculously exaggerated that I was waiting for the next twist so that I could witness how much more absurd the story could become, and there were several of them.

Wife enjoyed it last weekend. However, she hates for movies that will not generate a sequel to leave her hanging.

I may have to get the book to see if there is anything further within the book to close out the storyline.

If it makes you feel better, I second his opinion but mainly for the last 1/4 of the film. The movies pushes my limits for suspension of disbelief and critical reviews that praise the movie feel like they're digging too deep for hidden meanings.

I've heard good things but I'm oddly not all that excited for it. Gimme Inherent Vice or gimme nothing.

KT

Wow Inherent Vice looks awesome! Looking forward to this one. Not really interested in Gone Girl though. The wife will probably want to see it.

I'm reserving judgement, I've actually seen a few reputable things saying it's pretty damned good.

I'd trust the people here saying it was just OK more.

Don't think I'll bother really, not really my thing.

The first 1/2 to 3/4 of the movie was quite engaging. It drags here and there but the feeling and setting of the movie was very much akin to other David Fincher movies (felt like it could have been from the same world as Se7en and Fight Club). It's just the latter portion of the movie that gets a bit ridiculous. Probably worth watching, but I don't know if I would use my Costco Regal tickets for this movie knowing what I know now.

In the end, 'Gone Girl' echoes what experience has taught,
in that with marriage you think you are getting what you desire
when in reality you are getting what you deserve...

checked it out over the weekend, pretty good.

left the movie wondering
when my wife would be planning to kill me / frame me for her murder. lovely thoughts!

Not my favorite Fincher movie but I enjoyed it. Soundtrack was very Reznor.

I found it kind of stupid and boring, but there were a few specific scenes that I really enjoyed. I think I just wanted to the whole movie to be Affleck, his sister, and the cops, once it veered off into the other stuff I completely lost interest.
