So i am gonna be playing some golf (just the driving range) on tuesday for the first time in maybe 4 years. I will probably be pretty rusty as I will have lost all form. You guys have any tips for me? Anything I should read/look at before I go? I am also thinking about getting a new club set? Mine pretty much suck..Any suggestiosn on which to get or are there any deals out there right now?
Thanks 🙂

Keep your eye peeled for Bagger on the course. He's the cheapest caddy I've ever hired. $5.

Just try to hit the ball straight for now. Slow down your swing if you need to. Don't look up for the ball until you finish your swing (someone always told me to get a good look at your divot).
See if the place you are going will let you demo some different kinds of clubs so you can find what kind of feel you like.

for the love of god, do not attempt to try to kill the ball... actually, try to cut down your strength/speed in teh swing by 20%... this will give you more control and better shots.

Yeah: Have a few beers beforehand and stretch so you don't hurt yourself.

If you're hitting the driving range for the first time in 4 years, no other tips are going to help. No swing thoughts will save you. No advice will lessen the impending disaster. You're going to SUCK. It's going to be painful, humiliating and embarassing. If you expect anything else you'll be sorely disappointed. Any time you make contact with the ball will be a nice. Something that goes in the air for more than 5 feet will be a bonus. A ball hit in the air for 5 feet that goes straight will be a miracle.

Or worse... You'll ace the range... 260-270 straight as an arrow... then blow 18 tee shots and use your irons to excavate the fairways.

Either way... beer will ease the pain.

I had Golfsmith make me custom irons, pretty cheap too, $280. It actually helped me out a little bit, in terms of how the club felt when hitting the golf ball and not feeling like I would hit a rock all the time. Plus I could actually use my 3 iron since the clubs were measure for my height. They'll measure your hands, height, and check what kind swing you have. Plus you'll get to choose what kind of grips you like.

As always, hit the range if you can, might help remove some of that rust you gathered in 4 years. 😛

take little half swings and work on tempo. Slow and steady. Don't try to be Tiger Woods. You are not going to be bombing huge drives out there. Work on hitting it straight and with consistant distance. Most if not all golfers would take acuracy over distance.

Make sure you loosen up before swings. Stick to the irons till you're back in rhythm, I'd probably not touch anything outside of a 5,6,7,8 for full swings. Don't force your swing, try to let your body's elasticity and the clubhead's weight drive it.

Good luck.
