Golf R32 to be replaced by 270hp R20

"Following the success of the R32..." what...? The R32 lost every comparo it was in because it was either 10k too expensive or 75hp short of fast...
 
Good. Get rid of the heavy VR6. The R32 was always short of power from that unit for the amount of weight the cast iron unit brought with it.

I'll be really interested in what the price will be on this guy when it comes to the states (if?) and what they strip out from the European model before handing it to us.

Not really possible. The VR6 is such a shallow angle 'v' that at 3.2L it's pretty much at the top of it's potential capacity. Also it's head arrangement is quite compact so modifying it for mroe cams or more intricate timing systems is hard, AFAIK.

And as much as the R32 following will lament the loss of their V6...a turbo 4 is much more appropriate with regard to weight for this type vehicle and size.
