Among the worst things I'd see on TV and among things I'd never possibly imagine myself getting into, golf was near the top of the list.

All the stigmas associated with it, what with it being an upper class, old white person's game made me abhor it with a passion.

However I went out to this cheap place near our campus last night, and for $8 we got an all day "pass" on the 9-hole course (about 120 yards each hole) + $4 for club rentals. There were 4 other guys with me, and even though it took over 2 hours for us to complete the course..and even though I was usually about 3 over par (on par 3 holes) I was almost tempted to want to around again.

I don't think I'll ever own my own set of clubs or purchase membership at a club anywhere..but these $8 adventures are too good to pass up.

Most places WON'T do that. Your place seems to have been constructed specifically for college students (especially since it's a 9-hole course)

Ever play miniature golf? Along with bowling, it's the absolute PERFECT sport for college kids.

Most of the people I saw there were old(er) people. The parking lot had your typical Mercedes/BMWs (though this is LA)..along with a bunch of old beaters as well.

It's kind of out in the middle of nowhere (as much as you can be in LA at least, but I don't think too many college students go there..

Do you know where Jackie Robinson field is? It's in that area..there's a bunch of stuff out there, including a Japanese garden.

near which city or Freeway?

i know a place in Monterey Park that is supposingly cheap. IIRC, it was 12 bucks for 9-holes; and it's next to Cal State LA.

unless you keep on winning, I don't see poker can be any cheaper than golf :)

If you break even then it will still be considerably cheaper than golf.

what's the name of the course exactly?

the rancho park golf course has a 9 hole executive course that's five bucks on weekdays. that's on pico. go down westwood, turn left on pico. it'll be on the right hand side. it's across the street from the fox studios.
